The Church is failing itself in many ways, but unfortunately also failing God. One of the biggest of those failures is in the defence of simple, fundamental Biblical truths, such as this one: In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth.

We’ve become so brainwashed by propaganda and outright lies that we don’t even teach our own kids what Truth is. There they sit in the pews and cosy seats until they can escape to college, where they will be taught nihilistic nonsense, rather than the truth of God, which is that they were designed and made for Someone and for something far greater than this: they didn’t evolve out of nothing at all.

How can our ministers miss such a fundamental teaching? It’s there in just about every book of the Bible, never mind the first page. And just in case you’re one of those convinced that the New Testament writers and Jesus had more sense than to believe that stuff, think again, because you’re completely wrong.

It may not be a salvation issue…or is it? How can anyone who is convinced of evolution truly think of God as being the eternal one who transcends all of life and creation, and who therefore controls it, and who owns us, and who will one day bring it all to account? How can anyone who thinks that God did not design and make life go on to believe that He is the Master of life and death, and will one day raise all from the dead, as Jesus Christ himself taught? How can young people have faith if we don’t counter the lie from the pit of hell that they are related to slugs, grass and monkeys? Jesus spoke very plainly about creation. He said:

“Haven’t you read… that at the beginning the Creator made them male and female”? (Matthew 19:4).

Notice three things in particular here: God made humans; He made them male and female (two genders not twenty-two), and he made them “at the beginning” and not four billion years after it.

Paul made the creation his central point several times. For example, when sharing the gospel in Athens for the first time-a huge event in the history of the Church and of mankind-he began by asserting very firmly that God could not be put into a box, or into the shape of anything in nature, because, he said, He made all things (Acts 17:23-28). Even the Athenians, ignorant of the Scriptures, were able to recognise that “we are his offspring” (verse 28), something that too many Christians are not able to conclude in our information-rich time. Paul declared two thousand years ago, as his primary introduction to the gospel message, what many ministers and churches are afraid to do in our times:

From one man he made all the nations (Acts 17:26).

As a side-line, we are all of one race, and the Christian gospel and its primary messenger after Jesus was the FIRST to declare it! True Christianity has no racist assertions whatsoever. From one man? All the nations? Doesn’t that sound very much like we all come from…one man?

And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul (Genesis 2:7).

Your next breath is from God.

If we start questioning Paul and saying that he didn’t have the benefit of Darwinism (which is actually a curse on the human conscience) then we might just as well throw away our Scriptures completely, which claim to be the very word of God, and with it, our hope in eternal life.

It wasn’t just Jesus and Paul who affirmed the creation and the import of faith in our divine origins. John in the inspiring first chapter of his gospel, affirms the creation in unmistakable terms:

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made (John 1:1-3).

The entirety of our cosmos was created: nothing came about by chance or random events. John here includes the Son of God in the work of Creation, as did Paul:

The Son is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. For in him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things have been created through him and for him. He is before all things, and in him all things hold together (Colossians 1:15-17).

How could anyone claiming the name of Christ not acknowledge the Creation ex-nihilo, by the hand of the One who transcends it all?

The new Church collectively recognized the Maker of all things:

…they raised their voices together in prayer to God. “Sovereign Lord,” they said, “you made the heavens and the earth and the sea, and everything in them (Acts 4:24).

And Peter in his own letter, acknowledged creation and scalded those who forget about it and the reality of judgment, because the two are inextricably linked:

But they deliberately forget that long ago by God’s word the heavens came into being and the earth was formed out of water and by water (2 Peter 3:5).

The writer of Hebrews declared the same principle:

By faith we understand that the universe was formed at God’s command, so that what is seen was not made out of what was visible (Hebrews 11:3).

Why is the universe so vast? Answer: because God himself is greater than it. It is a reflection of the nature and power of our Maker.

By the way, the Bible was way ahead of its time. Its teaching that what we see was made from what we cannot see as in the verse above has been echoed by our modern day scientific discoveries. In the beginning (time); God created the heavens (space); and the earth (matter). Chew on that one, Einstein. What was required beyond the physical, in contrast to the atheistic theory of origins, was intelligence, information, and wisdom.

The important word in the Hebrews verse above is “faith”. Nobody has a video of either creation or of evolution, but the Christian believer is marked by his faith in the truth of creation. The entire universe, says the author, was formed at God’s command. It didn’t pop into existence on its own and then start writing blog posts and sonatas: it was formed at the command of the One who is far greater than the universe itself. Do you have that faith, or do you choose to have faith in the word of man instead: unbelieving man at that?

When we appreciate what God has made, and that He made it, and when we choose to worship Him for what He has made and for being who He is, we, in that worship, get a glimpse of just how great and mighty He is. Try it! Get a little look at the extent of His power, his love, and his imagination! Without this realization, our God shrinks to the size of a little green man flying around the universe in a lump of metal, or to a quantum fluctuation of nothing-an event never witnessed and never captured on video. Let’s get it right. Let’s give our Creator the glory He deserves. Let’s teach our kids that they aren’t related to slugs at all, and that their lives have meaning…eternally.
