I’m aware that you almost can’t believe anything you hear or see these days, in traditional or streaming media. Truth is almost entirely out of style, and that’s the truth. I therefore recently listened with due skepticism to another video about “new findings” in the world of geology.
The video, titled “5.3 Million Years Ago Megaflood of Insane Power Created Mediterranean”, is thoroughly secular and naturalistic, but as with other such presentations, it sheds a light on the way the narrative of Earth’s history has been hijacked and shaped, by those wishing to rob us all of faith in God and the Word of God.
Anton Petrov, who has a considerable following, says this flood was, “One of the most catastrophic floods on the entire planet, at least in the last few millions of years”. It is said to have created and shaped the whole Mediterranean area. It’s been confirmed by several recent studies, says Petrov, and now they believe it was “More catastrophic than we ever thought”.
This, according to Petrov, was a mega-flood of “insane power”, and yet was only one of the most catastrophic floods to occur on the earth during its history. Petrov’s words unwittingly belie much mockery of the Biblical Flood. “It couldn’t happen”, naturalists have said, poo-pooing the whole idea of a colossal flood on the earth. “There just isn’t enough water: where would it all come from?” “There is no process able to cause it to happen in the first place.” “How could one little rainstorm flood the entire earth?” And after all, we “know” that the present is the key to the past.
Such was the dismissal of the Biblical Flood. Now we have secular geologists talking about vast regional floods with “insane power” and calling them “catastrophic mega-floods”. They are events which affected enormous parts of the world’s surface.
Not long ago I commented on a BBC podcast titled, “The Late Devonian Extinction”. In this podcast evolutionists – experts in their fields of study – tell us that there have been at least five world-wide mass extinction events in the history of the earth, along with numerous other “lesser calamities”. Among creationists, PhD Geologist Steve Austin has been reporting for decades how, in some opposition to school textbooks, secular geologists have been quietly rejecting the notion of slow and gradual change in favor of catastrophism. They will, of course, avoid discussion of the Biblical Flood like the plague. Breck’s theory of the Missoula Lake floods in the Pacific North-west were frowned upon for years precisely because they sounded too Biblical. Now, a multitude of catastrophic and un-related events are invoked to circumvent the obvious.
As I’ve noted before, while secularists since the time of Darwin, Lyell and others have impressed upon millions of people the conviction that the world only looks this way because it has changed slowly over millions of years, “truth” as the evolutionists see it has been progressively altered to fit what they can’t help observing. A different and contradictory “truth” has been emerging.
Here’s the truth as I see it. The Bible has been right all along. and while it was never intended to be a scientific manual of Earth’s history, it gives an accurate and illuminating overview. The geological record plainly displays layers of water-borne sediments all over the earth, in which billions of animals were rapidly buried and fossilized. The dismissal of the Biblical Flood is and always was an attempt to dismiss the Biblical God.
Secondly, truth doesn’t go away, it just gets hidden for a time. When all comes to light on that great Day when God will call all of us to account, some people are going to be hard pressed to explain away their intentional ignorance, and even covering up, of the Word and warnings of God as found in Biblical Scripture.
