BABYLON, BRUSSELS, EUROPA AND UTOPIA

There’s a relationship between these names: a common thread relevant to our times and the world we all live in…

img_4429067786defAn EU Council poster. Note the caption: “MANY TONGUES, ONE VOICE”

Since President Obama pushed open the floodgates for immigrants into the US, erasing the legal/illegal distinction, and instructing border security to “stand down” and just watch and facilitate the invasion of the US by anyone who wanted to enter, any opposition to illegal immigration has been labelled “racism” and “bigotry”. As in Europe, big media companies slap frightening titles such as “far right” and “extreme nationalism” onto any political figure daring to even question the wisdom of opening the doors to all who want to come into the West, whether they’re vetted or not.

800px-Pieter_Bruegel_the_Elder_-_The_Tower_of_Babel_(Vienna)_-_Google_Art_Project_-_edited

However, not just in the US but in Europe also there’s a distinct flavor to this new one-world culture being surreptitiously foisted onto all of us. The following is a quote from the official document from a 1991 meeting which outlines the Muslim Brotherhood’s strategic goals for North America:

“The process of settlement is a ‘Civilization-Jihadist Process’ with all the word means. The Ikhwan [Muslim Brotherhood] must understand that their work in America is a kind of grand jihad in eliminating and destroying the Western civilization from within and ‘sabotaging’ its miserable house by their hands and the hands of the believers…” (NOTE 1).

Given the above, why did President Obama frequently entertain the Muslim Brotherhood in the White House? Why did he smooth the path to Iran’s development of nuclear weapons, and why did he sweeten the deal with a billion and a half dollars of US taxpayers’ money without congressional approval? Why did he support the MB takeover of Egypt, dressed up as an “Arab Spring” by the media, which led to an immediate onslaught on the Coptic Christian population, and a strict imposition of Sharia law? (NOTE 2). Why is the EU drawing in so many of that same cultural background into Europe- in fact millions of them-the great majority of which has no intention of assimilating?

Hillary Clinton’s aim was to maintain the legacy and goals of Obama. She was the globalists’ dream-the one who would continue Obama’s push. But the election of Trump upset the apple cart, and unleashed a world of hate and fury by the media and by establishment politicians-Democrat and Republican. Even media and politicians in Europe were screaming “foul”. Donald Trump rocked the establishment boat-the boat quietly but firmly taking us all down their globalist river. That “swamp” that Mr Trump promised to drain turned out to be a lot deeper and more stinky than even he expected, and it’s attempting to suck him under.download

On the other side of the Atlantic Europe continues to be changed into the image of a European “dream”, in which national identities and cultures are to be dissolved for a new one. And what will that new one be like? There’s no need to guess, because with mass immigration and the decline and fall of indigenous family and culture, population projections see Muslims as being the largest ethnic group within just a few decades in most EU countries.

The EU was intentionally founded to be a pre-global political organization. It’s a model and a stepping-stone for world government, in which national identities (but only those of the West) are erased. Europe and its planners cleverly knew that a top-down change would scare too many people at once. So what they did was maintain all the trappings of national government, and elections, while all the time superimposing global government on all. This of course is still in process, disguised as “sustainable development” and other euphemistic phrases.

In order to convince entire populations that what was happening was good for everyone and the only viable and desirable goal, education establishments and media giants continue to be shaped and manned to in turn shape the minds of the masses. And if we think we have no power at the ballot box now, dear reader, how will it be when our “leaders” have successfully thrown us into the pit of global government? If we think that politicians are out of touch now, and government entities impossibly monolithic and impervious, how will it be when one central power, somewhere, controls all things? Will our opinions matter then? The goal of global government; the aim of those promoting global citizenship, is that your individual rights will have no importance or relevance compared to your duty to the good of all. You will be like a worker ant: one of the many and totally dispensable.

To those of you who still think that world government is nothing more than the ridiculous conspiracy theory of semi-insane Christian fundamentalists, consider the United Nations organization, and UNESCO’s “Global Education First Initiative”. Knowing as Hitler did that the way to shape an entire nation was to “educate” its children your way, the GEFI is already at work in many schools in America and no doubt around the world. Point three of its three priorities in education is the following:

“FOSTER GLOBAL CITIZENSHIP” (NOTE 3).

Many of the goals of those promoting global citizenship appear to be good and wholesome. But who, for example, is going to decide exactly what “social injustice” is (note 4)? To liberals, social injustice includes the fact that there are too many white people, and that it “isn’t fair” that some people get paid more than others do. This is communism. And so communism can pass, to many peoples’ minds, as “social justice”. Who will set the rules? The Clintons, who “should” have been elected, to the minds of establishment politicians and media people, are so enamored with the idea of global citizenship that they offer a related award annually (note 5). Don’t bother to apply if you’re white.

download (1)(THE TOWER OF BABEL?)

The subject of monolithic organizations brings me to an interesting observation, already made by many, of the similarity between the modern West and ancient Babylon. Babel was the Biblical city in which man intended to unify under one flag, metaphorically speaking:

Then they said, “Come, let us build ourselves a city and a tower with its top in the heavens, and let us make a name for ourselves lest we be dispersed over the face of the whole earth” (Genesis 11:4 ESV).

God had different plans. He did not want mankind to be united, because he knew that they would be united in opposition against him, which would be bad for them also. So he confused their language, and dispersed them over the face of the earth (verses 5 to 9). Mankind is currently attempting to reverse the work of God at Babel.

It’s incredible to discover that the EU likens itself in many ways to a successful remake of Babel, which of course is probably nothing more than a myth to its planners and architects. What isn’t a myth is their opposition to the Biblical God and his ways.

Also remarkable is the EU’s happy recognition of the mythical roots of Europe. According to a Greek myth dating back to at least the time of Homer’s Ilyad,  the god Zeus had the hots for Europa, the Phoenecian mother of King Minos of Crete. Zeus decided to seduce her. He transformed himself into a tame white bull, and managing to coax her onto his back he ran off to Crete with her.

20_euro_6

(EUROPA ON A TWENTY-EURO NOTE)

The continent of Europe is named after Europa (no surprise there eh?). The European Union has been feeling the hots for Europa also, and has honored her in many ways-on EU money, for example.

However, it’s not just Europa who is honored, but the entire myth also. Outside the EU Council building is a statue of a bull wildly galloping along while a naked woman clings to his back.

So what, you may ask? What’s the significance? Is there any significance to the EU council’s use of a well-known painting of Babel in their literature, and their statue of Zeus carrying naked Europa on a wild ride? Couldn’t it perhaps just be that some sarcastic artist/ designer was aware of the view of some in the evangelical world, and so he wanted to tweek their excitement as a little joke?

In the eyes of some fans of Bible prophecy, the myth and the statue are in close similarity and relationship to a reference in the book of Revelation, in which a woman-“Mystery Babylon”-is seen to ride a “beast”, the very beast destined to rule the earth economically, politically and militarily. (Revelation chapter 17). More than that, it is considered by the same students of eschatology that according to prophecies in Daniel and Revelation Europe is destined to be the final kingdom to rule the earth, making its unification most significant in the light of other apparent “signs” of the nearness of end-times events.

Obama warned of a “blood-bath” were “Brexit” to succeed (note 6).

I confess to having been once completely convinced that the EU entity was to be the kingdom of Antichrist. However, over several years I’ve modified my view of the situation somewhat.  I think the kingdom of the beast will/ already does extend overseas, if you get my drift. I also believe that the movement of vast numbers of Muslims into the West is part of an elite plan to weaken and water down the influence of Christianity, so that the architects of antichrist’s kingdom can work more easily.

Perhaps most interesting is the fact that the EU seeks to dismantle borders and to foster and promote world entities, and ultimately world government. Of course many in the US and around the world are on the world-governance bandwagon. It’s a fact which is compelling in relation to prophecies of world government, and especially that prophesied world government’s opposition to genuine Christianity and the nation of Israel. These facts meet in an incredible “coincidence”, if that’s all it is, but I don’ t think it is coincidence.

I certainly do not agree with the notion of a few wackos that Donald Trump is the antichrist for many reasons. One of those reasons is that he is hated, not loved, by the globalists, by the wealthy elite who pull all the strings-including the media strings- who wish to blend all the nations and ethnic groupings together, and who want to drag the world into an anti-Christian perversion of God’s creation. They are under the spirit of Antichrist, and they are opposed to Trump.

To keep those of you who have managed to read this far in a little suspense, I think my own expectations of Antichrist’s kingdom must be discussed in another post, this one being already monstrously long. Having said that, it’s my opinion that Europe is only a part of the last-days kingdom; a little warm-up for the real thing. According to two passages from Revelation, we cannot know the form of that kingdom in any clarity until the beginning of the last three and a half years:

And the ten horns that you saw are ten kings (or kingdoms) who have not yet received royal power, but they are to receive authority as kings for one hour, together with the beast (Revelation 17:12);

The beast was…allowed to exercise authority for three and a half years (13:5).

THE END OF AN IRE

No, dear reader, I haven’t mis-spelled a word in my title, I’m just rather partial to puns…

393px-Gojira_1954_poster_3Do you ever wish you could read a book or watch a movie in which nothing goes wrong, where nobody gets hurt and there are no problems to solve? I’ve discussed with my sons the fact that works of fiction probably would never meet with much, if any success, without trouble at their center.

Without some sort of tension to resolve-injustice, war, loss, unfulfilled desires, threats or enemies-any movie, novel or drama would probably be rather hum-drum and not very interesting to the majority of people. Can you think of any work of fiction without at least one problem to put right? Even Christian stories center on family break-up, loss, persecution or aggressive debate.

It seems that while we all hate to suffer ourselves, we want to see others suffering, at a distance…but then perhaps to see the problem resolved at the end of the story. The hero must win the battle, or wreak revenge, or get his desired lover. If there isn’t a problem, we like to create one…don_quijote_and_sancho_panzaWe like to tell ourselves that we enjoy seeing suffering because it “reflects reality” and touches upon our own struggles. Even sci-fi and fantasy stories are really just dressed up hypothesized versions of real-life problems, although in these times some Hollywood-style stories attempt or hope to shape reality rather than mirror it.

History is a long succession of stories filled with tensions and resolutions, and in many cases there is no happy ending. So it is even in the Biblical narrative. Problems begin almost on the first page, when Adam and Eve fail a simple test. But wait a minute: why is there a test to pass or fail in the first place? Wasn’t it God himself who put that nasty tree in the garden? And wasn’t it God who seems to have turned his back while the Tempter came to persuade Eve to disobey? Behind it all, God had a grand plan-a scheme, the subject of the Bible: a narrative which is still in process of being acted out and fulfilled. I’ve written about this in my series “Why Do We Suffer?”Ary_Scheffer_-_The_Temptation_of_Christ_(1854)I was looking at a few facebook pages of people I used to know, and I was amazed to see even there that a common source of mirth and hilarity these days is ridicule of Donald Trump. Of course this isn’t news to any of us-it’s going on in many places. And the things they say about him are hateful, spiteful and most often completely false. They come from a media and an entertainment industry which has declared war on the world’s leader and his supporters.

So what do they want in Trump’s place? Who would they replace him with? I’m convinced they want more of the same. They want what President Obama was working hard to give them: a throwing off of the influence Christianity has had over the past two millennia, and a reversal of the confusion and separation of Babel. At Babel God acted to prevent the world of men from being unified. He did that because he knew that any such unity would be in opposition against him and against all that he created mankind for. And sure enough, the modern socialistic, one-world movement seeks to redefine marriage, spirituality, gender, love, and just about everything you can think of which relates to the original plan of God for mankind. Trump, imperfect though he is-as we all are-and his supporters, seeks to set back the clock on the perversion of God’s plan. The dissenters, the “jokers” and the haters all seek to continue the movement away from God, which was so enthusiastically facilitated and encouraged by our last president, his appointed judges and his devoted followers.800px-Pieter_Bruegel_the_Elder_-_The_Tower_of_Babel_(Vienna)_-_Google_Art_Project_-_editedThe history of man has been likened to a tale of two cities: one the celestial city of God, and the other Babel, the city of man. It’s all actually one story only: history is His-story. I’ve written before about the “Beautiful City”, a place in which man will one day, he hopes, realize his Utopian dreams; where he can do whatever he wants without consequence or criticism, and from which God is banished forever. However, proponents of modern humanism and secularism do seem to like the idea of inviting into the free world one version of god and his followers, in the hope that this god will aid in the removal of the one they see as the great ogre-the Biblical God.

Why do the nations rage, and the people plot in vain? (Psalm 2:1 ESV).

Behind it all the devil works to take down free society so that the gospel of Jesus Christ can be strangled once and for all. Many people see this as a top priority in life. They just refuse to see the fact that the gospel cannot be controlled or suffocated, any more now than it ever has been; any more than it was at the beginning when Jesus Christ was crucified and his disciples scattered and persecuted throughout the world. Persecution, as horrible as it is, only serves to further the cause of the gospel.What-is-truth02All these people will accomplish is the loss of freedom. But freedom will not only be lost for those that they hate: it will be gone from them also, because the system they work to impose in God’s place is intentionally excluding the only source of freedom.

All the machinations of those who seek to destroy what the West has stood for, with all its failures and weaknesses, may succeed temporarily, and on a superficial level- the only level they’re willing or able to see and detect. But in fact they’re expending all their energies only upon that which God has already planned and foreseen. Man without God is like a convict digging an escape tunnel, only to find that the entire prison guard are waiting for him at the other end.

God’s grand story is still unfolding-we’re in the middle of it now. The last page of the story of rebellious man is not far away, and man himself is helping to write some of the detail. Our Creator will bring to completion the Resolution of all resolutions, when those who’ve sided with God’s only son Jesus Christ will experience the happiest ending of all. And the happiest ending of all will begin a never-ending succession of wonderful, amazing stories without tension, trouble, or problems.

There can be no other outcome for the world than God’s victory over man’s rebellion, because God is the creator and sustainer of all things. Not only this, but he, and his Son, are the beginning and the end of the grand story:

Behold, I am coming soon, bringing my recompense with me, to repay each one for what he has done. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the first and the last, the beginning and the end (Revelation 22:12 The words of Jesus Christ-see verse 16)

THE WORLD AFTER TRUMP

Warning! Here comes another extensive rant fueled by hot, steaming passion, guaranteed to drive away my two remaining readers! Once in a while a bloke just has to let off some steam and ramble on about what really hurts his brain like the Dickens: this is such a time…

depositphotos_5100130-Man-with-bandage-on-head.-Looking-unhappy-at-something.

As I look around at all the rabid efforts to vilify Donald Trump and his supporters, as though they-we-have no right to partake in the political process or to have an opinion, and as I look around at the determination in Washington to remove Trump from office or at the very least to stop his progress and make him look like the biggest crook/buffoon/racist to ever occupy the White House, I can easily draw a line from where we are to the world of the book of Revelation. Truth is, without doubt, being thrown to the ground (Daniel 8:12).

There’s something of an attempted coup taking place in the US, in case you haven’t noticed. Its instigators seem to be hoping it will develop into a full-fledged revolution or civil war. Unfortunately for them Trump has far more support in the real world than they want to believe. Most moderate Democrats, I’m sure, are as uneasy about the whole situation as anyone else is and I think the radicals may well be just shooting themselves in the foot. Let’s hope so!

In any case, if the revolutionaries and their allies get their way, the US and the world will never be the same again. They know that if they can succeed in disposing of the only threat to their socialistic, immoral, West-destroying plans, there will be nothing standing in their path to “fundamental transformation”, since Trump is the only one with a spine and a following to oppose them: many Republicans just want to go with the flow and enjoy their positions.800px-Chrysaora_Colorata

Trump’s enemies had believed under President Obama that they held the direction of the country in their grip. Marx’s dreams were being realized almost without hindrance: the destruction of the Christian family, globalization, the marginalization of the Church, and the muzzling of all but politically correct speech. Notice that the underclass-those on welfare-were not decreasing in number but increasing, with fifty million people on food subsidies, and the nation doubling its debt in just eight years under Obama.

The election of Trump didn’t dampen the fervor of the revolutionaries: it spurred them on, being supported by the news media giants which are part of the movement. Obama said before the election that it was “dangerous” of Trump to suggest that a national election could be rigged, but as soon as his team lost the election they were attempting to claim it was rigged. No evidence has been found to this effect.

Marx, in his “Manifesto”, stated:

“Communists everywhere…openly declare that their ends can be attained only by the forcible overthrow of all existing social conditions”.

These people rioting in the streets and forcibly silencing speakers who don’t agree with them are not interested in democracy-they want to attain their ends by any means necessary. They want to see an end to the old order and they’re becoming increasingly impatient.

749px-Wrecking_ball (1)

The fundamental transformation of the US was in full swing: trans-gender bathrooms in public schools, gay marriage, tax-payer funded abortion for any reason, dismantled borders, diminishing traditional families, mountains of regulations against small business and privacy growing ever larger, the silencing of dissenters including Catholic nuns, government sympathizers in control of the media and much of higher education, and globalists, including Obama, steering us towards global citizenship under an Islamic flag.

Democracy got in the way. And Trump, accused of just about everything his enemies could think up, against all the odds, the opposition and the attempts to smear him, won the electoral college outright-the constitutional requirement for election. The media and their “deep state” allies then cooked up the post-election “Russia-collusion” charge.

Several secret service agencies have all testified that there’s no evidence of such collusion. So the next investigative attack (which is no less than a witch hunt) besides all the previous accusations still being thrown around and the relentless screams of “racism”, is that Trump tried to obstruct justice in the Russia investigation. Why would he do that, if there was no collusion?

The investigators are being so thorough-poking their noses into everything they can imagine, that they’ll probably soon be examining Trump’s DNA to find out if he has any Russian ancestors. Oh, but that wouldn’t be racism or bigotry of-course. They’re practically gnashing their teeth in desperation to find something-anything-to use as an excuse for impeachment, or at least to turn his voters against him. In centuries past, many heads would have rolled by now as the result of such treason.

341px-Workshop_of_Hans_Holbein_the_Younger_-_Portrait_of_Henry_VIII_-_Google_Art_Project

If the coup were to succeed, there will be nothing else and no-one else to stop the movement towards Obama’s vision of the nation-or rather the end of it-and the world. Any Republican who may be willing to fight the establishment (are there any?) would be similarly attacked and maligned by our “free” (ha ha) press and the wealthy liberal establishment. All dissenters to their political correctness will be pushed aside, mocked, locked up, silenced, and vilified. Now that’s fascism. Hitler and his Nazis were socialists, not capitalists: https://www.britannica.com/topic/Nazi-Party

Hitler’s Nazis silenced the Church, tightly controlled business, destroyed privacy, locked people up for saying the wrong things, denigrated the value of human life, sided with Muslims against Jews, and held complete control of all media outlets: all the things the liberals were doing and want to continue doing to a greater extent.

If the coup were to succeed, borders will soon be gone, polygamy and pedophilia with consent will be the next taboos to go, and men will marry dogs, cats, ostriches and trees. Free-speech will die, along with many millions more unwanted babies. The Christian gospel will be labeled “hate-speech”. Islam will be put on a fast track to the dominance it seeks, as was Obama’s wish. In fact, Obama may even make a come-back courtesy of his many admirers (Revelation 13:3). Israelis will be pressured heavily into handing over their ancient capital to their enemies. Iran will dominate the Middle-East.

457px-B_Escorial_108v

If the coup were to succeed, the UN will be handed US sovereignty on a plate. A super-wealthy liberal elite will rule us all, defended and promoted by the “news” media. Taxes will rise causing food and fuel prices to increase greatly. We will be told what we can and cannot do in every single area of our life except morality which will be a free-for-all. Death panels will decide who gets what medical treatment and who can be born. Racism and sexism will be directed entirely against white men with government approval.

PROPHECY AND PROBABILITY, POLITICS AND APATHY

According to at least one view of Christian theology if we really have faith we shouldn’t worry what happens to our world, because we’re all going to suddenly pop off to heaven in the rapture long before anything nasty happens here on the earth: we don’t need to engage in politics because God has it all in hand anyway, and most importantly, politics is “of the world”. These people believe that it’s a sin to engage in politics-except when it comes to voting “left” of course.

Try telling the hundreds of thousands of Christians murdered or driven from their homes and their nations in Middle-Eastern countries in recent years by political ideology, while the great Obama claimed to be “containing” their murderers, that we should just let any old tyrant take control of our nations and our world. And try telling it to the millions of babies who’ve been ripped from the womb because too many people think it’s “worldly” to engage in a political process which could halt the holocaust, and who won’t support their current president who by his own words is willing and ready to do what he can to stop it.

Yes, I do believe that God is ultimately in control of all things. He was also in control of all things when he sent Moses-a man-to confront Pharaoh. He was in control when Elijah confronted Ahab, when David confronted the Philistines, when John the Baptist confronted Herod, and when Paul appealed to Caesar. Yes lets pray for revival starting with ourselves, but let’s also engage in a political system which was fought for by Godly men to give us the freedom and prosperity we enjoy.

All of the aims of man without God in our age fulfill the warnings in Revelation and Bible prophecy in general: global governance, the persecution of Christians-legal and open in most UN nations already, rampant immorality, global communications and surveillance, a hatred of Jews and particularly Jews in their ancient capital, truth being thrown to the ground, and the dominance of a system which beheads people as a punishment for dissenters.

I’m not saying that all of this will happen immediately after Trump is gone for whatever reason, but extreme liberals in the US and elsewhere are wanting to tip the world in that direction, and most moderates and those on the right are too soft or too unwilling to do or say anything to stop them, for fear of being the targets of tolerant hatred themselves.

RAPTURE: THE CHURCH AFTER REVELATION CHAPTER 4

Welcome to part three of my up-dated study on the rapture. Herein read more challenges to the politically-correct position…

220px-Daniel-Dunglas-Home-levitation

IS THE CHURCH MISSING FROM REVELATION CHAPTER 4 ONWARD?

Update November 2018: You can get my new book on the rapture, from Amazon-paperback or e-book. The link is at the bottom of this post.

Pre-Tribulation believers say that while the Church is spoken of in the early chapters of Revelation, which they believe represent the Church age, the word “Church” is nowhere mentioned in the rest of Revelation, which covers the Tribulation. This is taken to be evidence that it will no longer be on the earth during that time. However, what they don’t consider is that all the prophesies of Revelation are given to the churches-not just the first four chapters. After the prophesies are all given, we read:

“I Jesus have sent my angel to give you this testimony FOR THE CHURCHES” (Revelation 22:16).

THE  ENTIRE BOOK OF REVELATION IS A TESTIMONY TO THE CHURCHES

Jesus said that the entire book of Revelation is a testimony for the churches. We first hear of this “testimony” at the beginning of chapter 1, where we’re told that Jesus Christ’s revelation was concerning “what must soon take place”. This includes not just the prophesies but the letters to the churches: the entire thing is:

“the testimony of Jesus Christ” (verse 2).

The churches-supposedly part of the church age-are given the same “testimony” as those who are martyred during the Tribulation.

So one message is told throughout the book. There are not separate testimonies for the rapture candidates and the failures. The book is a unit – not divided in two – and is as relevant to the Church as it is to Jews or anyone converted during the Tribulation. The prophesies, says Christ himself, are for the Church, and not for others who are “left behind”.

TESTIMONY, CHURCHES, SAINTS

There are common terms and phrases used in John’s words in both Revelation and his other New Testament writings. He used the phrase “testimony of Jesus”, in Revelation seven times, as well as using the word “testimony” separately several more times. However, “Testimony” was also a common theme in his gospel (e.g. John 21:24), much more common than it was in any other gospel or the writings of Paul. He also used the concept of “the testimony of Jesus” in two of his epistles to Church age disciples (1 John 5:6-11; 3 John 13), just as he used it to describe Christians living through the Tribulation in Revelation.

403px-Johannes_op_Patmos_Jeroen_Bosch

THE SAINTS WHO BORE TESTIMONY TO JESUS

If it’s true that the Church is nowhere to be found on earth in the prophesies of Revelation, who are “those who hold to the testimony of Jesus”, being persecuted by Satan and Antichrist (Revelation 12:12; 14:12; 20:4)?  Those killed by the antichrist are identified by John as “those who bore testimony to Jesus”(Revelation 12:17). However, it’s important to see that this phrase is not reserved for those being persecuted during the tribulation. The same term is also applied to the people who are known as the saints of Church history who have been killed by the Harlot…

“…those who bore testimony to Jesus” (17:6) …

It’s applied to John and his companions-who were first century Church-age Christians-by the angel relaying the revelation:

“I am a fellow servant with you and with your brothers who hold to the testimony of Jesus(19:10).

John, a first century, Church-age believer, also applied the term to himself at the beginning of the book, and related it to the suffering of his own persecution:

“I John, your brother and companion in the suffering and kingdom and patient endurance that are ours in Jesus, was on the island of Patmos because of the testimony of Jesus(Revelation 1:9).

Here is evidence of an undeniable oneness between all the believers of the real Church age-including the Tribulation: between all who “hold to the testimony of Jesus”. There are no second-class believers consigned to be “left behind” for the Tribulation.

Similarly, John spoke of the Tribulation saints ‘who obey God’s commandments’ (Revelation 12:17 and 14:12). We can’t necessarily describe this as a reference to Jews as some prophecy teachers want to, because in John’s letters he used the same Greek word when he wrote to Church-age believers of the importance of obeying God’s commandments (1 John 2:3-4; 1 John 3:22-24; 1 John 5:2-3; 2 John 1:5-6).

THE WORDS “CHURCH” AND “CHURCHES”, AND INDIVIDUALS

The word “Church” is not used in a singular sense even in chapters 1 to 4 of Revelation, and is only used to speak of “churches” in a plural sense. This word “churches” speaks of organized gatherings of believers. Perhaps the word “churches” is absent from chapters 4 to 21 because there will be no churches: they will be outlawed. Instead, there will be individual “saints” struggling to survive in a hostile world where they cannot congregate.

It’s never mentioned by the prophecy “experts” today that John did not use the words “Church” or “churches” at all in his first or second epistles (or in his gospel) even though they were written to Christians of his day. When he did say “churches” he was referring to an organized gathering. This is the same definition used by Paul and others. For example, when referring to groups of believers Paul used the word “churches” sometimes:

“Paul… and all the brothers with me , to the churches in Galatia” (Galatians 1:1-2).

However, Paul used the term “saints” for individual believers, and complimented it or contrasted it with the term “churches”:

“To the church in Corinth…together with all the saints throughout Achaia” (2 Corinthians 1:1).

Paul used the term “saints” many times for individual believers, which substituted nicely for the word “church”. For example:

“To the saints in Ephesus, the faithful in Christ Jesus” (Ephesians 1:1).

He also used the word “believers” at times, in place of “church”:

“…let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers” (Galatians 6:10).

ISRAELIS ARE NOT THE MARTYRED BELIEVERS OF REVELATION

It’s not accurate to see the saints of Revelation as the people of Israel or the 144, 000, because they are clearly seen to be separate in the dragon’s persecution of them. When he fails in his attempt to wipe out Israel in chapter 12, (and this is long after the beginning of any seven year period-verse 14) he turns his efforts to trying to wipe out Christians instead:

Then the dragon was enraged at the woman and went off to make war against the rest of her offspring-those who obey God’s commandments and hold to the testimony of Jesus” (12:17).

WHO ARE THE SAINTS OF REVELATION CHAPTERS 4 TO 21?

There are “saints” in the Tribulation – we read about them being persecuted by Antichrist, the dragon, and unbelievers. For an example, see Revelation 14:11-12. The question is: who are these saints? Pre-Tribulationists claim that they are not Church age believers, but some other form of saint, perhaps specially anointed Messianic Jews, or Gentile believers saved after the Rapture. I will later comment on the “end of the Church age”, so please refer to that for a complete understanding of this subject.

In truth, the same Greek word translated “saints” is used throughout the New Testament, and it doesn’t change after Revelation chapter 3 : saints are saints. Not only that, but the Tribulation saints are “faithful to Jesus” (Revelation 14:12). How can they not be Christians? Alright, they are not called “Christians” by John, but then, John did not use the term “Christians” anywhere else in Revelation, including Christ’s letters to the churches (and neither did Jesus or the angel), or in his epistles, or in his gospel. Neither did he use the word “believers” anywhere, except once in his gospel.

The word “saints” is, however, used many times throughout the New Testament for Church-age believers, for example:

Paul…to all the saints in Christ Jesus at Philippi…” (Philippians 1:1-2);

On the authority of the chief priests I put many of the saints…(not the churches) ”… in prison, and when they were put to death, I cast my vote against them” (Acts 26:10);

As Peter traveled about the country, he went to visit the saints in Lydda” (notice that Luke did not say that Peter “went to visit the church in Lydda” Acts 9:32).

Antichrist will make war against the “saints”- and not the “churches” – because his design is not just to eradicate organized gatherings, but to wipe out believers completely:

He was given power to make war against the saints and to conquer them…This calls for patient endurance and faithfulness on the part of the saints” (Revelation 13: 7a and 10b).

THE BATTLING BRIDE?

When Christ returns to the earth with those dressed in fine white linen – those who most evangelicals regard as the raptured Church (Revelation chapter 19) – the words “Church” and “churches” are not used to describe them.

THE BLOOD OF THE SAINTS

Famous “last days” prophecy teachers speak and write about the “Mother of Prostitutes” of Revelation chapter 17 as though she had been killing saints (and the scripture doesn’t say “churches”) over the two millennia since Jesus was on earth. The corrupt church and false religion has persecuted saints down through history, they say. Alright, if this is true (and it is), then the “saints” killed by the Harlot are regular Church-age believers, and called “saints” in Revelation, are they not? So what makes them any different from the “saints” mentioned in other places in Revelation, such as those who are called to patiently endure, in 14:12?

WAS JOHN’S TRIP TO HEAVEN A TYPE OF THE RAPTURE?

The calling of John into heaven before the prophecies of the judgments (chapter 4:1) is seen as a type of the Rapture, showing that the Church will similarly be called into heaven before the judgments take place.

In response, we can observe two things here. First, there is no statement that John’s trip into heaven represents the rapture of the Church. Secondly, John came back to earth as a mortal.

THE BLESSED HOPE

The pre-tribulation rapture is being called by some the “blessed hope”: it is not. The blessed hope is the appearing of Jesus:

“…while we wait for the blessed hope-the glorious appearing of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ…” (Titus 2:13).

BABYLON THE GREAT, Part 3

Here’s the third and final part of my personal study on “Mystery Babylon”. It probably needs a little editing, so it’s a rough diamond…

THE MERCHANDISE OF MYSTERY BABYLON: CHAPTER 18
Revelation chapter 18, which describes the destruction of a great city which has made the merchants of the world rich, is often interpreted as a literal city which will be rebuilt on the original site of Babylon. I said in the first two parts of this post that I don’t think this is true, and gave some of my reasons.
The first verses of chapter 18 recapitulate what we’re told in chapter 17: Mystery Babylon has corrupted the entire earth with her adulteries. But another dimension is introduced in verse 3: she has enriched the merchants of the earth with her “excessive luxuries”. Verse 7 tells us that she has given herself “glory and luxury”. From verse 9 we’re told about the merchants of the earth standing far off, watching and mourning over her destruction, because they’re no longer able to gain wealth from her as they did.
Along with “glory and luxury” the prostitute blesses herself with great wealth:
“The woman was dressed in purple and scarlet, and was glittering with gold and precious stones and pearls. She held a golden cup in her hand…” (17:4).
How does this picture of wealth relate to the interpretation I’ve given of the woman?
BABYLON AND IDOLATRY
I’ve talked about the woman’s adultery and prostitution being metaphors for false religion as well as rebellion against God. That is, along with rebellion the religions, gods and untrue theologies and philosophies of history all add up to “Mystery Babylon”. They’re a dominant component governing successive human civilizations.
“Idolatry” is another word used in the Bible for the worship of false gods, but it can also describe an obsession with luxuries, material wealth in general, and even other people. Something or someone we are obsessed with-something or someone we give our devotion to rather than giving that devotion to God-is our idol. I think this is what Revelation chapter 18 is mostly about: Mystery Babylon is not only a symbol for false religion and rebellion, but for man’s obsession with “stuff” and people we put on a pedestal, rather than putting God there. I’ve already written about the need for us believers to be separate from what the Bible calls “the world”, and how the world and its way of life apart from God relate to idolatry. Here are a few other examples from the Bible:
A greedy person (“covetous” in the KJV) is an “idolater” (Ephesians 5:5 and Colossians 3:5).
The worship of statues and false gods is called “idolatry” and “adultery” (Ezekiel 23: 35 and 37).
Obsession with food is making your stomache your god (Phillippians 3:19).
The worship of statues is called “prostitution” (Leviticus 17:7).
Paul called gods “idols” (I Corinthians 8:10).
Israel lusted after “the nations” as well as their gods: they wanted to be like them instead of being set apart for him. God called their lusting “prostitution”, “lewdness” and “promiscuity” (Ezekiel 23:29-31).
John said, “Do not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For everything in the world-the cravings of sinful man, the lust of the eyes and the boasting of what he has and does-comes not from the Father but from the world” (1 John 2:15-17).
Remember that James called those who are friends of the world “adulterous people” (James 4:4). Therefore those things that come from the world, as listed by John above: the cravings, the lusting of the eyes and the boasting of what we have and do, are spiritual adultery.
So the Bible says that idolatry, which is spiritual adultery, is not only the worship of statues and false gods but can also be greed. It can be a continual lusting for something we haven’t got but are determined to have no matter what the cost to our spiritual condition, and it can be a prideful attitude about what we possess and what we do. It can therefore be something we “serve”- something which is our first love-our priority- rather than having God as our first love.
With this in mind, it seems logical that the obsession with worldly wealth spoken of in Revelation chapter 18 is referring to the idolatry of man, to materialism, to the lust for stuff and the wealth it brings, rather than the pursuit of God. The world’s merchants, we’re told:
“…grew rich from her excessive luxuries” (Revelation 18:3).
Mystery Babylon is the personification of idolatry. She is adultery, and she is rebellion and disobedience.
Jesus, having just told his disciples to store up treasure in heaven and not on the earth, said:
“No one can serve two masters. Either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and Money” (Matthew 6:24).

THE CONTINUATION OF BABEL’S SIN
The sins of the “mother of prostitutes” have continued on in successive world empires ever since she appeared. They are the desire to congregate rather than to disperse; the desire to rule in a centralized power over the masses; the practice of idol worship and the worship of numerous false gods and philosophies rather than the one Creator God. Also among the sins passed on to subsequent empires are the persuit of a unified, multi-cultural, noted and revered humanistic society without God; an obsession with immorality and all kinds of sexual perversion; a smug arrogance and bloated image of its own wisdom, knowledge and importance (Isaiah 47:10 and Revelation 18:7b); the persecution of the real people of God; an obsession with material wealth and the worship of “super” humans such as movie stars, rather than God:
“Your merchants were the world’s great men” (Rev. 18:23).
BABYLON AND ON…
Mystery Babylon is seen to “ride” upon a seven-headed beast in Revelation chapter 17. As I’ll show in a later article the seven heads are commonly understood to represent seven kingdoms or empires which have arisen in chronological order throughout history. She has not only been the distinguishing characteristic of all these empires since the beginning of human civilization, but she has dominated them and controlled them:
“The woman you saw is the great city that rules over the kings of the earth” (Rev. 17:18).
The kingdoms or empires normally associated with the heads of the beast, that is, the “five have fallen and one is” as recorded by John in Revelation, include Babylon, Assyria, Medo-Persia, Egypt, Greece and Rome. Some people see the Ottoman Empire as one of the seven. It’s not greatly important which of the ancient empires God intended to be in the list: he knows who they are. But the last two or three are of great importance to us, particularly, of course, the last one, which is an eighth beast.
We could wonder why such nations and empires as those in the far east are not included in the lists made by theologians and prophecy “experts”. In answer, I would say that 1: Those in the list are the dominant empires of known human civilization, 2: They all had a profound effect on the nation of Israel-the location of Old Testament events and the nation which carried the human line of geneology to the Messiah and his place of birth and ministry, and 3: They are the “ancestors” of the future kingdom of the antichrist.
THE DESTRUCTION OF THE HARLOT
Babylon’s destruction is said to take place “in one hour” (Rev, 18:10, 17 and 19). Proponents of the rebuilt city theory see this as evidence that a literal city of Babylon will be destroyed suddenly, possibly with nuclear weapons.
However, the use of the word “hour” in the Bible is sometimes used as a metaphor to mean a general time, not a literal hour of time. For example, the Tribulation, although known to be a period of at least three and a half years, is referred to as “the hour of trial that will come upon the earth” (Rev. 3:10). The time of judgment is referred to as “the hour of his judgment” (Rev. 14:7). The beast will have authority on the earth for “forty two months” (Rev. 13:5) and yet ten kings are seen to have authority along with him for “one hour” (17:12).
BURNED BY FIRE?
Revelation speaks of Babylon being consumed by fire (Rev. 18:9). I find it interesting that this seems to fit with a prophecy in Ezekiel in which, while Israel is being attacked by Gog and other neighboring nations, God says:
“I will send fire on Magog and on those who live safely in the coastlands” (Ezekiel 39:6).
Is this a literal fire, or is it a metaphor for some other major problem? The beast and his ten kings who will hate the prostitute:
“…will bring her to ruin and leave her naked; they will eat her flesh and burn her with fire” (Rev. 17:16).
This must be a noxious collection of metaphors, because these world despots aren’t likely to leave a city literally “naked”, and they aren’t going to eat it. Therefore the word “fire” may well also be imagery for some other kind of attack.
WHY WOULD THE 8TH BEAST WANT TO DESTROY THE PROSTITUTE?
This is a fascinating question to me: what will be different about the final beast, the final kingdom and its leader, that would make them hate the woman and want to destroy her?
It’s necessary to remember that the beast is unknowingly employed by God to fulfill his will: the destruction of the prostitute (Rev. 17).
THE 8TH BEAST: A FEW THOUGHTS
The books of Daniel tells us that the antichrist will exalt himself above every “god” (Daniel 11:36 and 2 Thess 2:4). Daniel and Jesus tell us that he will desecrate the Jewish most holy place on the temple mount in Jerusalem. Revelation tells us that he will demand worship around the world. Paul tells us that he will claim to be God (2 Thess. 2:4).
They all tell us that he will speak against the Biblical God and blaspheme him. He will attempt to replace all other gods. He will persecute and kill Jews and Christians. He will seek and almost attain world domination. He will invade Jerusalem, believing it to be his, and occupy the temple mount. This is the spot where dedicated Muslims-with their fierce monotheism and hatred for the decadent West-obsessed with material wealth and luxury- have wished for hundreds of years to eradicate the memory of Judaism and Christianity, and enthrone its own god…
