When I was a kid and a teenager-many moons ago-it was not uncommon to hear people say that we needed some sort of supreme authority over the world; someone who would take control of those politicians who were messing everything up, and make the world a just place for all. This dream and hope has only grown over the decades, until now we have some very influential people openly using their positions to try to bring it about. As someone famous said not too long ago, if you don’t have borders you don’t have a nation…

That, of course, is the goal of many now in positions of power: they don’t want nation states anymore. They want us all to be “world citizens”. For the most part, their goal up to now has been worked toward surreptitiously, by maintaining the outward appearance of nation states but by demolishing the sovereignty and independence of those states. Just look at the EU, already a pre-global governance power, with some in its sway only now waking up to what has been going on.

This dream of removing the “ancient boundary stones” and founding a supreme power over all assumes that the ultimate human authority will be a just and fair one: a very large and very optimistic assumption. But if it’s not just and fair, who would we go to to remedy the situation? Most of us already see our governments as being out of touch, out of reach and uncaring, and making a lot of wrong decisions. We think that because for the most part it’s true. And even when we do get a politician who cares about the people and who isn’t self-serving, he’s smothered by other politicians and media people who want to maintain the status quo and the direction dictated by their own agenda.

There’s one thorny little problem in the whole idea of achieving a just and fair society: human nature. From the very first spat and assertion of one man’s will over another, as imagined in my previous post, “WHERE FREEDOM IS”, human government has been attempting to consolidate power and influence: what good has it done us up to this point? When do we ever, ever ever ever ever, ever ever ever…(for any length of time) get a government which is fair and just? The answer is “never”. So what makes anyone think a world government is going to be any better?

We’re told by those who would benefit-so they think-from consolidation, that just and enlightened elites, with a little help and guidance from the media who are now really another branch of government, not elected and unaccountable, will choose leaders who will be just and wise and fair and beneficent, and so everything will work out. Plato had that idea-2500 years ago. He said that a just society should be controlled and led by an elite band of philosophers, all-wise and all-knowing decision makers, while the rest of us -essentially the working rabble-carry out their will and roll around in unending joy, satisfaction and ecstasy. Kant and Hegel also were convinced that humanity would eventually come up trumps. I intend no pun here, because our current president, bravely battling the movement towards world authority almost alone, is definitely not what they hoped for, hence the frenzy of hatred and falsehoods against him.

Has it happened yet? Have the elites come up trumps-ever? Do you really think it will happen? Some people of the John Lennon variety actually do. They think that humans are basically good, and that we only need to have the right conditions and the right leaders, and Utopia will be achieved. Good luck with that.

If we think government is out of touch and out of range and out of control now, what makes us think that a world body will be any less so? Surely, it will be more out of touch, more out of control, more monolithic, more elite and aloof? Not only so, but huge decisions will be made by those totally out of our reach which will not be in our interests.

Scripture envisions, predicts and prophesies just such a world authority in which the enemy of society (there always has to be an “enemy” to deflect criticism of government) will be the Christian, and the Jew. Such a view is already present within the United Nations, and within the movement pushing for an end to borders and national sovereignty.

GIVING FREEDOM AWAY

I’m toggling between being so disgusted with the attitudes of people that I want to give up caring what happens to the nation… and being determined to not be one of those who stick their heads in the sand and let the godless rabble take over the country and trash it.

Bury-your-Head-in-the-sand

In the blue corner (an old boxing phrase) we have half of the population who, while it suits them, side with the super-biased media and hate their president no matter how successful he is. In the red corner we have those who are just so traditional in their ways that they’re too soft and too polite and honest to play the enemies at their own game, which is getting their own way at any cost-cost to someone else, that is.

Is there any point in caring? Of course, that’s the impression the rabid dogs attempting to take down the president want us to think. No matter that he’s refused to be paid for his 24-7  service to the country, and poured many millions of dollars into his own campaign, and worked for every American-of any color or description: he has to go. Why? Ultimately, I believe, it’s because those at the top of our society, the ones who care so much about the poor that they want to give them your money while holding onto their own millions and their power over us, want to see a world socialist state in which we as individuals would have no power whatsoever except over which TV channel to turn to. They want to trash what America and the West has stood for, which is freedom of thought, conscience and enterprise, and replace it with a boa-constrictor like grip on our money, our words, our thoughts, and on everything we do.

It’s galling to see professing Christians ignoring the entire situation with the empty claim that God’s will will be done. Do they have the same view about thieves breaking into their houses or stealing their credit cards? Of course not-those things are too valuable to be left to “God’s will”.

When the nation falls totally to the globalists who will take away the rights of Christians and silence any witness they have, it will be too late to think about regaining the freedoms won by those who wanted to worship God-the one true God-freely and openly. That God will be replaced by another god, looming on the West’s horizon already.

The gloves are off now. No longer do we argue the point about politics with any measure of civility or honesty; no longer are news reporters reporting news or educators merely educating, and no longer do we intellectually or intelligently jostle and contend for the moral high ground of truth. Instead lies, slander, hate, intrigue and unashamed scheming are the weapons of choice in a mad, rabid attempt to bring down a duly elected President. Those who once claimed to be tolerant are out of the closet and swinging, bare knuckled.

So what’s just around the corner for America, and so for the world? It the haters win, there can be no other outcome but the total loss of free speech, the triumph of those who hate what America stands for, and the triumph of elites determined to rule over the rest of us using our money and our hard labor. The enemies of America and what was once Europe will be free to swamp the West. Sounds almost apocalyptic, doesn’t it?

ON the occasion of Trump’s recognition of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel, I decided to re-post something on the subject. This post is five years old, but not at all out of date. In fact, what is covered here will become increasingly relevant to all of us in the coming months and years…

Take a look at the map above. If you can spot tiny Israel at all, dwarfed by all the surrounding lands governed by Muslims, you will see how disproportionate is the opposition to its existence. I say “existence” because sometimes Islamic leaders speak of their determination that Israel should be “driven into the sea”, or “wiped off the map” To locate Israel in this map, refer to the one at the bottom.

In my country of origin, the United Kingdom, it’s become fashionable to blame all the problems of the Middle East on Israel. Neo-Nazis and other anti-Semites even go so far as claiming that all the political and economic problems of the world are caused by Zionists and Jews. I’ve heard some of them say it myself – perhaps you have too.  Anti Semitism did not die with Hitler, it just took a back seat for a time.

Here’s a rather enlightening quote from the Hadith, a collection of phrases attributed to Mohammed:

The day of resurrection will not arrive until the Muslims make war against the Jews and kill them, and until a Jew hiding behind a rock and  tree, and the rock and tree will say: ‘Oh Muslim, oh servant of Allah, there is a Jew behind me, come and kill him!’ (Sahih Bukhari 004.52.176)

The Koran does not contradict the Hadith:

Believers, take neither Jews nor Christians for your friends (Surah 5:51).

And for our liberal friends, who generally side solidly against Israel, here’s some rather politically incorrect advice from the Koran which seems to escape your attention:

Men take authority over women…As for those who are disobedient, admonish them and send them to beds apart and beat them (Surah 4:34).

Of course, anti Semitic views are not confined to Muslims or to the United Kingdom – they are worldwide. It’s fashionable for the news media, for colleges and universities, for many politicians, celebrities, and the people on the street to take sides against Israel. The United Nations regularly condemns Israel for defending itself, and wishes to diminish its power in any way possible.

I don’t intend to go through the history of Israel, Islam and the Middle East here, except to remind you (or perhaps you’ve never been told) that  Israel was last removed from its land by the legions of the Roman Empire under Titus, in the first century AD. Josephus estimated that the Romans killed over one million people in the process, ploughing Jerusalem into the ground, and then renaming the land “Palestina” as a final insult to the Jewish race, since Israel’s nearby enemies for centuries had included the Philistines.

There has never been a nation called “Palestine”, and no other nation has had Jerusalem as its capital except Israel. Israelites wandered the earth since the first century, being hounded and persecuted wherever they went. The last significant persecutions, perpetrated by Hitler and Stalin, caused Israelites to seek their own homeland after WWII, in the hope of avoiding any future genocidal attempts against them. Fulfilling Bible prophecies, they founded the new nation of Israel, and have been growing in population and economic success. People of Jewish descent have been moving into the land from all over the world.

The terrible history of the Jewish nation, struggling for its very survival, as well as its future, was prophecied well before and during the time of Christ. In fact, the Bible speaks clearly of events still to come which will affect the whole world, centred in the nation of Israel.

The current “peace process” calls for the division of Jerusalem, and for Israel to become even smaller, so that it would be shrunk to nine miles wide at its narrowest point, and fifty at its widest. A space this small would be impossible to defend agoinst the many surrounding nations committed to Israel’s destrution. Islam now (and not in the past) claims that Jerusalem and the land “occupied” by Israel belongs to them.  Jerusalem was not mentioned once in the Koran, but is mentioned 800 times in the Bible. Jews established Jerusalem as their capital three thousand years ago.

This opposition has been prophecied in the Bible. Not only so , but the Bible speaks of a time, just before the return of Christ to the earth, when Israel’s neighbors, with the help of “all nations of the earth” will make one last almighty effort to remove the Jewish state, particularly Jerusalem and Judah, currently known as the West Bank. The number of similarities between Bible prophecy about Israel in the “Last Days”, and the current situation in the Middle East, along with world wide anti-Semitism, is amazing. You can see some of the details below.

Please understand that I am not saying that all Israelis are good and all Moslems are evil. Many Moslems are good people, and many have found faith in Christ, despite the threat of persecution from radicals among their own people. Many Israelis are ungodly people, and the judgments of the Last Days are aimed at them as much as anyone.

I’m writing today to suggest that you choose sides wisely in your discussions and your prayers, in the coming Middle East peace or security arrangement which will not last, and in the coming battles and wars between Israel and its neighbors. Choose wisely before and during the war of all wars between Israel and all the nations of the world (“all” implies that even the US will side with the Muslims, or just step aside). Choose wisely, because God has said to Israel, “I will bless those who bless you, and I will curse those who curse you” (Genesis 12:1-3). Choose wisely, because whoever touches Israel touches the apple of God’s eye (Zechariah 2:8). Choose wisely, because in the day that “all nations” attack Israel, and forcefully divide Jerusalem, The Son of God Himself will show up to join in the fight (Zechariah chapters 14 and 12). At that time he will not be meek and mild, but the roaring lion of Judah:

I will gather all nations to Jerusalem to fight against it…Half of the city will go into exile, but the rest of the people will not be taken from the city. Then the Lord will go out and fight against those nations, as he fights in the day of battle. On that day his feet will stand on the Mount of Olives…(Zechariah 14: 2-4).

Multitudes, multitudes in the valley of decision! For the day of the Lord is near in the valley of decision. The sun and moon will be darkened, and the stars no longer shine. The Lord will roar from Zion and thunder from Jerusalem, the earth and sky will tremble. But the Lord will be a refuge for his people, a stronghold for the people of Israel (Joel 3:14-16).

In those days and at that time, when I restore the fortunes of Judah and Jerusalem, I will gather all nations and bring them down to the valley of Jehoshaphat. There I will enter into judgment against them concerning my inheritance, my people Israel, for they scattered my people among the nations and divided up my land (Joel 3:1-2).

Notice the words “my land” in that last verse. The land belongs to God, and he can lease it out to whoever He wants. Notice also the words “my people”.

No, dear reader, I haven’t mis-spelled a word in my title, I’m just rather partial to puns…

393px-Gojira_1954_poster_3Do you ever wish you could read a book or watch a movie in which nothing goes wrong, where nobody gets hurt and there are no problems to solve? I’ve discussed with my sons the fact that works of fiction probably would never meet with much, if any success, without trouble at their center.

Without some sort of tension to resolve-injustice, war, loss, unfulfilled desires, threats or enemies-any movie, novel or drama would probably be rather hum-drum and not very interesting to the majority of people. Can you think of any work of fiction without at least one problem to put right? Even Christian stories center on family break-up, loss, persecution or aggressive debate.

It seems that while we all hate to suffer ourselves, we want to see others suffering, at a distance…but then perhaps to see the problem resolved at the end of the story. The hero must win the battle, or wreak revenge, or get his desired lover. If there isn’t a problem, we like to create one…don_quijote_and_sancho_panzaWe like to tell ourselves that we enjoy seeing suffering because it “reflects reality” and touches upon our own struggles. Even sci-fi and fantasy stories are really just dressed up hypothesized versions of real-life problems, although in these times some Hollywood-style stories attempt or hope to shape reality rather than mirror it.

History is a long succession of stories filled with tensions and resolutions, and in many cases there is no happy ending. So it is even in the Biblical narrative. Problems begin almost on the first page, when Adam and Eve fail a simple test. But wait a minute: why is there a test to pass or fail in the first place? Wasn’t it God himself who put that nasty tree in the garden? And wasn’t it God who seems to have turned his back while the Tempter came to persuade Eve to disobey? Behind it all, God had a grand plan-a scheme, the subject of the Bible: a narrative which is still in process of being acted out and fulfilled. I’ve written about this in my series “Why Do We Suffer?”Ary_Scheffer_-_The_Temptation_of_Christ_(1854)I was looking at a few facebook pages of people I used to know, and I was amazed to see even there that a common source of mirth and hilarity these days is ridicule of Donald Trump. Of course this isn’t news to any of us-it’s going on in many places. And the things they say about him are hateful, spiteful and most often completely false. They come from a media and an entertainment industry which has declared war on the world’s leader and his supporters.

So what do they want in Trump’s place? Who would they replace him with? I’m convinced they want more of the same. They want what President Obama was working hard to give them: a throwing off of the influence Christianity has had over the past two millennia, and a reversal of the confusion and separation of Babel. At Babel God acted to prevent the world of men from being unified. He did that because he knew that any such unity would be in opposition against him and against all that he created mankind for. And sure enough, the modern socialistic, one-world movement seeks to redefine marriage, spirituality, gender, love, and just about everything you can think of which relates to the original plan of God for mankind. Trump, imperfect though he is-as we all are-and his supporters, seeks to set back the clock on the perversion of God’s plan. The dissenters, the “jokers” and the haters all seek to continue the movement away from God, which was so enthusiastically facilitated and encouraged by our last president, his appointed judges and his devoted followers.800px-Pieter_Bruegel_the_Elder_-_The_Tower_of_Babel_(Vienna)_-_Google_Art_Project_-_editedThe history of man has been likened to a tale of two cities: one the celestial city of God, and the other Babel, the city of man. It’s all actually one story only: history is His-story. I’ve written before about the “Beautiful City”, a place in which man will one day, he hopes, realize his Utopian dreams; where he can do whatever he wants without consequence or criticism, and from which God is banished forever. However, proponents of modern humanism and secularism do seem to like the idea of inviting into the free world one version of god and his followers, in the hope that this god will aid in the removal of the one they see as the great ogre-the Biblical God.

Why do the nations rage, and the people plot in vain? (Psalm 2:1 ESV).

Behind it all the devil works to take down free society so that the gospel of Jesus Christ can be strangled once and for all. Many people see this as a top priority in life. They just refuse to see the fact that the gospel cannot be controlled or suffocated, any more now than it ever has been; any more than it was at the beginning when Jesus Christ was crucified and his disciples scattered and persecuted throughout the world. Persecution, as horrible as it is, only serves to further the cause of the gospel.What-is-truth02All these people will accomplish is the loss of freedom. But freedom will not only be lost for those that they hate: it will be gone from them also, because the system they work to impose in God’s place is intentionally excluding the only source of freedom.

All the machinations of those who seek to destroy what the West has stood for, with all its failures and weaknesses, may succeed temporarily, and on a superficial level- the only level they’re willing or able to see and detect. But in fact they’re expending all their energies only upon that which God has already planned and foreseen. Man without God is like a convict digging an escape tunnel, only to find that the entire prison guard are waiting for him at the other end.

God’s grand story is still unfolding-we’re in the middle of it now. The last page of the story of rebellious man is not far away, and man himself is helping to write some of the detail. Our Creator will bring to completion the Resolution of all resolutions, when those who’ve sided with God’s only son Jesus Christ will experience the happiest ending of all. And the happiest ending of all will begin a never-ending succession of wonderful, amazing stories without tension, trouble, or problems.

There can be no other outcome for the world than God’s victory over man’s rebellion, because God is the creator and sustainer of all things. Not only this, but he, and his Son, are the beginning and the end of the grand story:

Behold, I am coming soon, bringing my recompense with me, to repay each one for what he has done. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the first and the last, the beginning and the end (Revelation 22:12 The words of Jesus Christ-see verse 16)
