Most of us love our family members and our friends. But how frustrating it is to be given the cold shoulder by them because we are people of faith. They assume that since you are “religious”, and seriously so, you are clearly deluded, ignorant, unstable, and know nothing. They won’t even take your recommendation of a coffee brand seriously any more…

I have no need to be proven “right” in order to rescue my ego, I just want them to come to a knowledge of the truth, and stop believing the nonsensical lie that the universe created itself. There is a fantastic God, offering eternal life-free of charge-and they don’t want to know! They don’t want you to explain. They don’t want to consider for one minute what you have to say. They refuse to give you enough respect to hear you out.

At the same time, they wonder why it is that the world is in such a mess, politically and socially. They refuse to even imagine that it might possibly be because millions of people have similarly turned their backs on the one who designed and created us in the first place. Have you noticed how much people complain about the struggles of life, the government, the weather, and sickness? Why does everything seem so wrong to people, if we evolved and life is therefore exactly as it should be, with death, destruction, theft, corruption, violence, competition, broken families, and far more?

There comes a time when God finally gives up on people. Yes, He’s patient and kind and longsuffering and merciful. But at a certain point in God’s dealings with humans He decides to let them go their own way, and to suffer the consequences.

The apostle Paul spoke of such a time:

“…just as they did not think it worthwhile to retain the knowledge of God, so God gave them over to a depraved mind, so that they do what ought not to be done” (Romans 1:28).

I know nobody loves a Jeremiah or a Jonah, but there’s a time for saying what has to be said.

God is no doting old grandfather who will put up with just anything and everything perpetually, and there’s strong warning to be found throughout Scripture. Perhaps the penultimate consequence will be when God is so disgusted with His creation-mankind-that He will actually send great delusion, like pushing an old and useless car off a cliff to finish it off:

They perish because they refused to love the truth and so be saved. For this reason God sends them a powerful delusion so that they will believe the lie and so that all will be condemned who have not believed the truth but have delighted in wickedness (2 Thessalonians 2:10-12).
