FAITH AND WORKS

The debate over whether salvation is by faith or by works continues…

I believe that salvation is by faith alone: it is the gift of God. How many people can be good enough for a perfect God? The answer is that there is only one-Jesus Christ. This is the teaching of Scripture. However, we are saved “unto good works” (Ephesians 2:10). We are saved from our sins, not in spite of them. Therefore, we can’t go on living life as we did before we were saved. And the way we live should be the evidence of our faith. If there is no evidence in our life that we know God and his righteousness, then there is no genuine faith.

Here’s a little tickler for the professing believer who thinks that what he or she does with his life doesn’t matter:

Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord (Hebrews 12:14).

God created us to become Christlike, not so that we would remain in our sins.
