Once people cut their tether to the revealed Word of God they’re going it alone. They are re-making God in their own image.

Under the umbrella of Christianity today are large numbers of people-even entire denominations-who are deciding for themselves what God has said, what He hasn’t said, what He should have said, and what He’s “trying to say” today. The very first rebellion against the word of God was when Satan asked Eve, rhetorically, if God had really said what she recited. She was ready to ignore what God had said, and just a little prompting pushed her to complete rebellion. Adam did no better.
As bad as denying or ignoring what God has said, is speaking for Him and then claiming that He has said it. This is happening on a huge scale in some parts of the Christian world today. The super-apostles and the super-spiritual of our day are denying the warnings that He Himself has given about doing such a thing, and arrogantly, or blindly, claim that it was the Holy Spirit of God speaking.
“Son of man, prophesy against the prophets of Israel who are now prophesying. Say to those who prophesy out of their own imagination: ‘Hear the word of the Lord! This is what the Sovereign Lord says: Woe to the foolish prophets who follow their own spirit and have seen nothing! (Ezekiel 13:2-3).
I’ve had my share of “prophets” telling me what the Lord had told them to tell me. Why didn’t the Lord just tell me, and cut out the middle man? I’ve been given false prophesies-prophesies which did not happen-and when I questioned the alleged “prophets”, they assured me that, as was the case for Jeremiah (20:9), the word of God was burning in their bosom: they just had to get it out, so it couldn’t possibly have been wrong. So-called prophets in the church these days, I’m told, are claiming that prophesies don’t always have to be right for the speaker to be a prophet of God. Only a certain percentage of “rights” have to occur, they say. They are, then, telling God that He didn’t mean it, or was wrong, when He said:
“…when a prophet speaks in the name of the Lord, if the thing does not happen or come to pass, that is the thing which the Lord has not spoken; the prophet has spoken it presumptuously; you shall not be afraid of him” (Deuteronomy 18:22 NKJV).
Entire denominations and cults have re-written Scripture for themselves, and then have the arrogance to claim the original was wrong all along, and wasn’t really the original-theirs is the right one. Our culture is being pushed down a path of gross immorality now, partly because some in positions of influence have decided that God has changed His mind about certain things, and that a plain reading of what He said has to be re-interpreted to fit the times. Even Bible versions are being produced to accommodate what God hates. Ah, but very early manuscripts and fragments are available: tens of thousands of them, including the Dead-Sea Scrolls, and including voluminous writings of the Church Fathers. You may pull the wool over the eyes of the gullible Adams and Eves of our world, but not over the eyes of those of we Adams and Eves who know what God has said, and believe that He says what He means, and means what He says.
The church is even getting to the point now where some in the Charismatic world are proclaiming not just that they go regularly to heaven to chat with God and advise Him, but that they are God, just as much as Jesus Christ or Jehovah. This is not just insane arrogance, its blasphemy, and it’s arrogance from the pit of hell-from the mouth of the one who so deceived Eve and her weak-willed husband.
Scripture very clearly states many times over that it is God-breathed. You can choose to deny and ignore that if you want-that’s the freedom God has given you, along with the consequences which follow. But if you want to know the God of the Bible, you have to humble yourself, and accept what He has truly said, and reject what He didn’t say.
