At this election time I’m finding it more and more necessary to look to my God for hope and for the correct perspective. If I don’t, I’ll be like Peter who, stepping out of the boat onto the waves when Jesus called him, found himself looking around too much at the waves.
In other places of Scripture, waves represent the lost and godless world:
“…the wicked are like the troubled sea, when it cannot rest, whose waters cast up mire and dirt” (Isaiah 57:20 KJV).
Peter lived in a world in turmoil, and which was hostile to him and his Lord. His faith and hope in God was vital in order to cope. No doubt the lesson Jesus taught him on the water stayed with him for life. We may not be challenged as much as Peter was, but challenged we are.
UNWORTHY ALL
You may be one of those who think that both presidential candidates in the USA elections this time are unworthy of the position. True, Trump has a stained past. He’s imperfect-like me and you. But flawed as he is, I’m voting for him, because he will help us to a more liveable and more godly society than we would have otherwise. I’m praying for him, primarily to be elected, but also for his protection, both physical and spiritual.
THE ACCUSER
Which party of the two main competitors has accused its opponent and his supporters of just about everything you can think of? Which party has attempted to lock up its opponent in prison, even framing him and accusing him of colluding with the Russian government? Perhaps it isn’t coincidence that Satan, named by Paul as “…the prince of the power of the air” (Ephesians 2:2) is also known as “the accuser of the brethren”:
For the accuser of our brothers and sisters,
who accuses them before our God day and night,
has been hurled down (Revelation 12:10b).
Calling Trump “Hitler” is an insult to the millions who were slaughtered by Hitler’s armies.
It seems to me that people who spend all their time accusing others, with bile and vitriol and lies and hatred and spite-and with absolutely no conscience-are likely to be closer to the ultimate accuser than anyone else. Our enemy is called in Scripture “The prince of this world”(John 14:30). He’s the one who wanted even to dethrone God: why wouldn’t he want to dethrone a president? He’s the one who had Jesus Christ accused of blasphemy, leading to his execution:
Then Satan entered Judas, called Iscariot, one of the Twelve (Luke 22:3).
Which party and its core supporters promotes the confusion of gender, including trans-gender operations at taxpayers’ expense? Which party upholds and defends the slaughter of the unborn by the tens of thousands-the denial of their right to live-for almost any reason?
Which party works for globalists fighting to overthrow the West and to take our hard-earned wealth away, enriching themselves in the process? Which party has fed our money to a war in Europe which has seen half a million die, without attempting negotiations? Which party thinks they need to control what you eat, what you drive, what you watch, what you hear, and who your leaders are?
Which party wants to control your media so that you only hear their side of the story? Which party wants to swamp the nation with aliens who haven’t even been questioned about their backgrounds or their philosophies on life or what their diseases may be, and gives them taxpayers’ money to do so? The writing is on the wall for all peaceable, hard-working Americans and Europeans-of any color or creed.
PAUSE THE ROT-PLEASE
The answer to all the above is obvious to millions of us, and if Donald Trump is not elected this time, or if his haters somehow succeed in disposing of him after he’s elected, I will personally suspect that our God has given up on America and on the West. Unfortunately, even if he does manage to survive in office for four years, his term may only be delaying by a little the inevitable, which is the judgment of our decaying culture. Once God gives up on a culture, the only future for it is destruction.
Perhaps we have one last chance to change our ways, as Nineveh did.
WHY DO THE WICKED PROSPER?
Psalm 73, a Psalm of Asaph, observes the wicked prospering, to the point that the author felt hopeless against evil, and almost envious of those who benefitted from it. Until, that is, he entered the house of the Lord and realized fully what their ultimate end was going to be:
Surely you place them on slippery ground;
you cast them down to ruin.
How suddenly are they destroyed,
completely swept away by terrors!
They are like a dream when one awakes;
when you arise, Lord,
you will despise them as fantasies (Psalm 73:18-20).
Asaph then holds up in his heart the prize available to all who have faith and hope in the Lord. His focus moves from his own fear, disgust and envy to the goodness and faithfulness of God, and finally to the ultimate goal of the believer-an eternity with our Creator:
Yet I am always with you;
you hold me by my right hand.
You guide me with your counsel,
and afterward you will take me into glory (verses 23-24).
Asaph is saying, “It’s all win, win, win with my God. I cannot lose!”
My hope, and your hope should be firmly and deeply in God and His son Jesus Christ. All things are in his hands, including elections and the future. Whatever happens in the coming days and years, we can’t let the world around us drag us down. Our God will bring all things into conformity with His will, in His good time. In the meantime, every soul on earth is being sorted and tested, and being also given the chance to turn. The wicked will soon be gone like puffs of smoke. We who love our God will be taken into His presence.
