A growing number of people within the Christian world are irate and upset over the fact that some of us are supporters of modern Israel and look out for their protection and their justification…

Some are pointing to what our “unbiased” and “balanced” media tells us are atrocities perpetrated upon poor helpless civilians, and protest that it’s immoral to support Israel.

While I openly confess that I believe it’s Biblical to support Israel, it’s not because I see Israel as a nation of righteous and godly people, and their enemies all wicked and evil. Humanly speaking, they are no more deserving of favoritism or excuses than is the US or the UK, or any other nation, apart from the fact that they’ve been and are the best ally of the West in that region, because they’ve been persecuted and hounded for centuries in the countries they were exiled to, and because they’re still hounded in their own tiny land today by the nations which surround them.

But the most important reason to desire to help them and pray for them is Scriptural, and anyone claiming to believe the Bible for their salvation and their spiritual resource needs to pay attention, or else fear answering to Israel’s Protector for their stand against Him.

First, their re-gathering- that which has been happening since 1948-was foretold many centuries ago and is a sign-perhaps the sign-that the “Day of the Lord” is not far off:

“I will take you out of the nations; I will gather you from all the countries and bring you back into your own land …”And I will put my Spirit in you and move you to follow my decrees and be careful to keep my laws” (Ezekiel 36:24, 27).

The re-gathered nation will be attacked by the “International Community”

“In future years you will invade a land that has recovered from war, whose people were gathered from many nations to the mountains of Israel, which had long been desolate” (Ezekiel 38:8).

Second, their re-gathering is not due to any righteousness they display, but to the plan of God:

“This is what the sovereign Lord says: it is not for your sake, O house of Israel, that I am going to do these things, but for the sake of my holy name, which you have profaned among the nations where you have gone….”Then the nations will know that I am the Lord… when I show myself holy through you before their eyes” (Ezekiel 36:22-23).

Thirdly, what happens to the nation today is still very much God’s concern, and we would all do well to heed that fact:

“I will gather all nations to Jerusalem to fight against it…”Then the Lord will go out and fight against those nations…”On that day his feet will stand on the Mount of Olives, east of Jerusalem…”On that day men will be stricken by the Lord with great panic” (Zechariah 14:2, 3, 4 and 13).

My advice: be on the right side of God’s plan…
