A Sword from the LORD

Hello! This is Nathan Fisher. I’ve seen my Dad publish a lot of fantastic articles here over the years glorifying God, and this seems like quite a bit of fun.

So anyway, on a more serious note, I was reading an article on the New York Times about “religion.” It correctly attributed the quote,

“I did not come to bring peace, but a sword,”

…to Jesus in Matthew 10:34. However, the author of the article, “How Well Do You Know Religion?,” implied that this shows the violent side of the Judeo-Christian tradition and that Christianity is as violent as or more violent than certain others towards outsiders. Was Jesus saying that He wanted Christians to convert by force, to oppress, or to conquer?

Unfortunately, this shows once again that the Bible has been misinterpreted. When Jesus first began to teach the gospel, He was hated, persecuted, and ultimately executed. This was the same for all of the apostles (except John) and the hundreds of Christians that came after. Those that wanted to preach Jesus’ real words to ordinary folk in their own language, such as William Tyndale, Martin Luther, and others were attacked and pursued.

When Jesus said the above quote, His intention was to show that the message He brought and His death and return to life would bring conflict and strife. His sword was metaphorical: a sword of division. It was not that it was His will to oppress non-Christians, but  who He was that would bring trouble. In the evil world we are in, good is not always accepted as what it is.

In fact, Jesus says, and I quote:

“For I have come to turn ‘a man against his father, a daughter against her mother, a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law-a man’s enemies will be the members of his own household.’”(Matthew 10:35-36 NIV, quoted Micah 7:6)

…and this has happened in families throughout history, increasingly so as the events of Revelation draw near.

When He was arrested, the Messiah told Pilate,

My kingdom is not of this world. If it were, my servants would fight to prevent my arrest by the Jews.” (John 18:36)

And another thing about violence, especially concerning the Old Testament:

“For I take no pleasure in the death of anyone, declares the Sovereign LORD. Repent and live!” (Ezekiel 18:32)

The sword Jesus is describing was, and is, the violence stemming from the oppression of truth. However, the LORD has a plan to end this. We have the last chapter of history: Revelation.

Oh yes, and lastly, as a comfort to all of us, Jesus told us,

“In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” (Jesus, John 16:33 NIV)

While the President and his obedient team push through the deal with Iran, labelled by those in the immediate firing line as an existential threat to an entire nation of seven million people-not to mention several Arab states, Iran’s supreme leader, the Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, metaphorically rubbed his hands with glee, and said during a speech this week in Tehran:

“I’d say (to Israel) that they will not see (the end) of these 25 years,” (Islamic Republic News Agency quoted Khamenei’s words, spoken as he discussed the deal this Wednesday at the Imam Khomeini Mosque).

In the very best outcome, Iran will be free to pursue its nuclear ambitions in only ten years. In reality Iran is known to fail to keep deals, is developing inter-continental ballistic missiles, continues to call for the death of America, has repeatedly stated that Israel must be wiped off the map, is known to be supporting terrorism worldwide,  is being supplied with weaponry and technology by China and Russia, and worse than that, as part of the deal arranged with the UN, can inspect its own nuclear facilities.

Mr. Hitler, were he able to laugh, would be in fits of insane laughter by now.

Here’s a thought: if you believe in evolution and you’re a carnivore, you’re eating your cousins. Come to think about it, even if you’re vegan you’re eating your cousins, and so is everything else. We could call Earth one big “family diner”.

(ABOUT BLANK “Humanoid”)

There are now over seven billion people on the face of the earth. Although there are face “types”, and some people seem to have doubles, every face is unique!

“You belong to your father, the devil…He was a murderer from the beginning, not holding to the truth, for there is no truth in him” (John 8:44).

It is the man who denies that Jesus is the Christ. Such a man is the antichrist-he denies the Father and the Son” (1 John 2:22).

Well, not really my very favorite, but one of my favorites is “Dr. Strangelove”, which I gave myself the pleasure of watching again a couple of days ago. I think it may be Peter Seller’s best movie. My favorite line is when Sellers, as President Merkin Muffley, upbraids US General Turgidson and Soviet ambassador Alexei de Sadeski, saying,:

You can’t fight here-this is the war room!”

When a faith-healer gets sick why doesn’t he heal himself? Why do faith healers die? (That’s a rhetorical question).

It’s amazing to me that although I express strong opinions on some things, nobody challenges me. This is worrying, because we should all have strong opinions and not be afraid to politely but firmly defend them. This phenomenon has to be somehow related to the fact that the government, politicians and judges get away with so much while “we the people” sit in front of our TVs and push more food into our faces.

In the 20th century Otto Schindewolf, Richard Goldschmidt and others proposed the “Hopeful Monster” mechanism of evolution. This theory, not widely accepted, resulted in the suggestion that the first bird hatched from a reptilian egg. In other words, evolution can happen in sudden leaps, not gradual change as we were all taught at school. The idea received renewed support in the 1970s from Stephen J. Gould, one of the main spokesmen for evolutionists in the U.S. at the time. In his 1977 article, “The Return of Hopeful Monsters, ” Gould not only admitted that the fossil record with its abrupt transitions offers no support for gradual change, but he also asked the question (asked by creationists ever since Darwin), of what possible use are the imperfect incipient stages of useful structures?

Even more contemptable, in my book, are the hopeful monsters of today’s prophecy “experts”. I heard one recently tell us:

“We know that the first trumpet (of Revelation) sounded at the time of World War I”.

How he “knew” this I can’t figure out, and it can’t be any more than guesswork, unless “the Lord told him”.

Another very prominent expert said recently:

“We know that God never brings judgment without removing his people first”.

This is of course a reference to the Rapture, which most evangelical ministers believe will facilitate our trip to heaven before anything bad happens to us.

You only have to look at the references in Revelation to those who are beheaded for their testimony for Jesus to realize that at least they won’t get raptured before facing the trials of the Tribulation (Revelation 20:4).

You can read my posts on the Rapture in which I discuss my view of the claim that we will escape all the troubles of the Tribulation. But it annoys me that such ministers are living the high life by speculating and guessing, and by failing to prepare the Church for what is already happening in some parts of the world. The most common word used by these people is “if”.

I’ve outlined previously the fact that the Wrath of God, according to Scripture, is not prophesied to fall until some point in the last three and a half years of that seven year period, so the idea that God will not pour out wrath on his people does not mean that we will all be gone before the seven year period of prophesied events begins. What we see now happening in many parts of the world, where many thousands of Christians are being persecuted and martyred in horrible ways while these prophecy experts make their money, is the wrath of man-the wrath of Satan.

The above discussion, particularly bearing the word “monsters” in mind, leads me on naturally to the fact that there are people in the world at this time who are, without meaning to, fulfilling Bible prophecy. From the extremist Muslims beheading and crucifying Christians and promising to wipe the Jews off the earth, to the world leaders who are anxious to divide Jerusalem, to those saying “where is the promise of his coming?”, to the multitudes around the world who are believing the media hype that the nation of Israel is committing senseless atrocities and has no right to defend itself, the Word of God appears set to be fulfilled in our time. See my posts on Jerusalem and Israel.

I should-since it’s a while since I did-let the reader who is not aware, know that Jesus Christ died for our sins. That is, if we accept his sacrifice on the cross and apply it to ourselves, and if we believe (accept) that God has raised him from the dead, and if we associate with him and change our ways, we are forgiven by God the Father, and we are promised eternal life, and given salvation from the consequences of everything we have done, said, and thought which offended the holy Creator of the universe. You don’t need a priest, you don’t need to give some minister all your money, you don’t need a religion, and you don’t need to “feel” anything: you are just one prayer away from God.

Israel has no intention of fulfilling Bible prophecy. Even if most Israelis believed it (they don’t) they would not want to make it happen, since Bible prophecy speaks of a world in violent opposition to a newly-reborn Israel being in possession of Jerusalem, and to its very existence. How can these two facts be true at the same time, except by incredible coincidence, or by actual fulfillment of Bible prophecy?

I’m able to comment on this matter with a little knowledge and personal experience. I spent six months in Israel, and when one day my wife and I walked from where we were staying to the coast, we were told that we had just walked the width of Israel as it was before the six-day war. “Peace” advocates, including President Barak Hussein Obama, want Israel to go back to those same borders-borders which would be indefensible against a number of nations and peoples whose stated goal is to see Israel driven into the sea.

Why is it that the world has for years turned its back while Hamas and other groups have fired rockets into Israel, day after day, year after year, in the hope of killing some people-any people, but when Israel finally decides that enough is enough and it’s time to defend its citizens, the world writhes in a frenzy of anti-Semitic scorn and condemnation?

At the more extreme end of the anti-Israel rhetoric the Turkish Prime Minister has told CNN that he thinks Israel has “surpassed what Hitler did” (1).

Of course, Hitler only murdered six million Jews in an effort to extinguish the entire race, while the Israelis, terrible people that they are, have killed a few hundred in an effort to safeguard their own survival.

Iran’s supreme leader has stated that the only “solution” for the mid-east crisis is the destruction of Israel, and until then Hamas and others must be supplied with more weapons to fire into Israel (2);

Hamas’ charter has not and will not cease to call for the ultimate destruction of the state of Israel:

“Israel will rise and will remain erect until Islam eliminates it as it had eliminated its predecessors.” (The Martyr, Imam Hassan al-Banna, May Allah Pity his Soul) (3);

The charter of the Palestinian leadership, which until recently feigned “peaceful” intentions does not recognize the legitimacy of any Jewish state:

Article 17: The partitioning of Palestine, which took place in 1947, and the establishment of Israel are illegal and null and void, regardless of the loss of time… (4).

ISIS, or ISIL, is threatening the destruction of Israel (5), and all this on top of the UN’s continued condemnation of anything Israel does, and of its continued existence in most of the tiny piece land Israel inhabits.

But what about all those civilian casualties? Exaggerated numbers or not, the fact of civilian casualties is a terrible thing, and no nation, including Israel, will escape judgment when the time comes. But the Israelis have documented how Hamas hides behind its own civilians-women and children-by installing its weapons among them-among those just wanting to live their lives in peace- and compels them to go into the very places where the IDF has called ahead to warn that there is going to be some shelling and shooting:

How many military forces get on the phone to warn their enemies of an attack as Israel does? It’s a Hamas propaganda war-they are no more interested in the safety of their own people than they are in the safety of Israelis. And world opinion expects Israel to back off so that Hamas can begin firing rockets and digging tunnels again.

The world is actually angry that Israelis have suffered less casualties than the Palestinian population has: They wish that more Israelis were killed to make the battle more “fair”. The “Iron Dome” missile defense system has foiled the plans of Hamas to kill large numbers of Israeli civilians.

No other nation in the world would accept their land and their population being fired upon for months and years without taking action, but world opinion wants to see Israelis lay down and die.

Peace accord? Israel worked with the Palestinians for many months towards an agreement, when the Palestinian leadership backed out and sided with Hamas, committed to Israel’s destruction. The rockets began to rain down upon Israel, and only “Iron Dome” prevented a large number of civilian casualties. Israel accepted the Egypt-brokered ceasefire just before the latest hostilities, but Hamas did not, and continued firing missiles. If I were an Israeli, I would want to go into Gaza and route out the men who want to murder my family members and my countrymen.

Among Bible warnings of last-days events are those concerning the coming attempt to wrest Jerusalem from the Israelis, and the invasion of Israel by what is currently known as the “International Community”:

I am going to make Jerusalem a cup that sends all the surrounding peoples reeling. Judah (the “West Bank”) will be besieged as well as Jerusalem” (Zechariah 12:2);

“I will gather all nations to Jerusalem to fight against it…half of the city will go into exile” (Zechariah 14:2):

…not, by any chance, East Jerusalem…?

ARMAGEDDON IS A PLACE http://www.bibleplaces.com/megiddo.htm

“Then they gathered the kings together to the place that in Hebrew is called Armageddon” (Rev 16:16). This is a call to the “kings of the whole world, to gather them for the battle” (verse 14).

Those believing last days prophecy see this as a reference to the plain of Megiddo, which I have seen with my own eyes, and which is not far to the north of Jerusalem. The reference fits with other prophecies of the future invasion of Israel and the assault on Jerusalem.

Please note that I am not claiming the current trouble to be the start of the battle of Armageddon, but that the battle is probably not far in the future.

Wake up Christian and non-believer! Either these matters are an amazing collection of coincidences, or they are a warning of the coming fulfillment of Bible  prophecy.

The United States government, wishing to disarm Americans, and in a spirit of continuing its tradition of arming its potential enemies, is to date going ahead with a deal in which two hundred M1A1 Abrams tanks and twenty F-16 advanced fighters will be GIVEN to the Moslem-Brotherhood led Egypt, courtesy of the American tax-payer, later this month. What is the logic of borrowing money from China to buy weapons to give to the Muslim Brotherhood?

It’s the same Egyptian government which has just imposed Shariah law on its citizens, which is turning a blind eye to Coptic Christians-its own citizens-being harassed and persecuted, and which privately calls America an “enemy”. Its leaders are among those who have agreed that Israel, our best ally and only real democracy in the Middle- East, with its seven million citizens, is an invalid entity: a “cancer” which should and “will” be removed. Its leader, Morsi, has called Israelis “the descendants of apes and pigs”. This is remarkably close to Hitler’s view.  Egyptian clerics, now empowered by Shariah law, have advocated the destruction of Israel at the earliest possible date:

In answer to the above, you are welcome to read my post on the future of Jerusalem:
