I heard a sermon today! For the first time in a long, long time I heard a sermon worth hearing…
It was the kind of sermon which makes me want to stand up and praise God at the top of my voice. It was inspiring, it was uplifting, it was challenging, and it was thrilling.
What was it about? What was the magic formula? What was the style of its deliverance?
Well first I’ll tell you what it was not about: it was not about me. It was not about how I can improve my life, my walk, my self-esteem, or my earthly blessings. Instead it was about Him… the Lord God Almighty. It was a sermon in which our Creator and Sustainer was glorified, and in which His holiness was exalted and uplifted. It was a sermon about the greatness of God: about how incredible He is, how mighty he is, how far above human nature He is, and how He is perfect in holiness.
Could I please hear a few more of those? Could I please hear and sing some songs which are not used to glorify me or some “cute” and “powerful” contemporary music artist? Can’t we please praise our God?
