Secular geologists have become more convinced in recent decades that catastrophic processes caused at least some of what we see in the record of the rocks and the fossils, whereas they once insisted that the present is the key to the past. The difference in their interpretation of the effect of catastrophism is that they believe multiple disasters over many millions of years formed the rock record, whereas the creationist puts most (not all) of the features we see today, including most of the fossil record, down to one colossal catastrophe: the Biblical Flood.

From Here to There: A Prophetic Pondering
I will speculate for my own curiosity but never claim that "the Lord told me", or that "The Bible says..." when it doesn't. However, I've asked myself numerous times in recent years how our world might pass from its present state of affairs to the one foretold in Revelation and other passages of Scripture. Here's a collection of rambling thoughts on the subject, guided by over forty years of interest and observation.
End-Times Introspect
I spent the first two years of my Christian life telling my non-Christian friends and family that Jesus was coming back "in the next few years". That was forty-four years ago. Having been proven wrong at least in their eyes, apparently fulfilling their conviction that I was a gullible idiot, I could have tossed my Bible long ago in sheer embarrassment, had I allowed myself to be defeated. Thank the Lord, my faith persisted and I was blessed with a little insight, so that here I am still in love with my God and with all the Bible has to offer. Additionally, certain central facts relating to end-times prophecy have maintained my hope in the soon - coming of Christ, except perhaps with more caution.
The Good, the Bad and the Pitilessly Indifferent
If there's no God to decide what's good and what isn't good, who decides what's true and what isn't? Who decides what's right and what's wrong? In a world where God doesn't exist there can be no absolutes: there is no ultimate right or wrong except what humanity decides is so. "Good" and "bad" are entirely subjective concepts, and open to change. To paraphrase a certain president from not long ago, "Truth is fluid".
HOW TO BE A WINNER WHEN YOU’RE A LOSER
Some of the most difficult words of Jesus for us to accept - believers or unbelievers - speak of blessing and gain through loss, weakness and failure. "Whoever finds their life will lose it, and whoever loses their life for my sake will find it" (Matthew 10:39). "Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven" (Matthew 5:3); "... many who are first will be last, and the last first" (Matthew 19:30).
