How should we feel about the political state of our nation and our world? Anyone who has their eyes open can't fail to feel trepidation, disgust and frustration when looking at what our so-called "leaders", and our potential leaders, say and get up to. But perhaps there's another way of looking at things...
When I find myself in public spaces where people are present in large numbers, I'm struck by how empty and meaningless the lives of so many appear to be.
What is "far-right" about "Lord of the Rings", except in the rabid, seething hatred of an alleged news reporter? I'll tell you: it's dualism. It's the conviction that there are such things as absolute good and absolute evil; that the two are in complete opposition, and that the good can and will ultimately prevail.
I've done it myself, and I would venture to say you have too. I've sat in church listening to a good sermon, and thought one of two things: "I hope so-and-so is listening to this" or, "So-and-so should be here listening to this".
The most common cause of unbelief, according to surveys, is the problem of evil and suffering. If there really were a God, people reason, there would be no suffering. Putin's Russia would not get away with the invasion of Ukraine, Uncle Joe wouldn't have died of that awful disease, and the cat would not have got caught up in a tree.
