THE END OF AN IRE

No, dear reader, I haven’t mis-spelled a word in my title, I’m just rather partial to puns…

393px-Gojira_1954_poster_3Do you ever wish you could read a book or watch a movie in which nothing goes wrong, where nobody gets hurt and there are no problems to solve? I’ve discussed with my sons the fact that works of fiction probably would never meet with much, if any success, without trouble at their center.

Without some sort of tension to resolve-injustice, war, loss, unfulfilled desires, threats or enemies-any movie, novel or drama would probably be rather hum-drum and not very interesting to the majority of people. Can you think of any work of fiction without at least one problem to put right? Even Christian stories center on family break-up, loss, persecution or aggressive debate.

It seems that while we all hate to suffer ourselves, we want to see others suffering, at a distance…but then perhaps to see the problem resolved at the end of the story. The hero must win the battle, or wreak revenge, or get his desired lover. If there isn’t a problem, we like to create one…don_quijote_and_sancho_panzaWe like to tell ourselves that we enjoy seeing suffering because it “reflects reality” and touches upon our own struggles. Even sci-fi and fantasy stories are really just dressed up hypothesized versions of real-life problems, although in these times some Hollywood-style stories attempt or hope to shape reality rather than mirror it.

History is a long succession of stories filled with tensions and resolutions, and in many cases there is no happy ending. So it is even in the Biblical narrative. Problems begin almost on the first page, when Adam and Eve fail a simple test. But wait a minute: why is there a test to pass or fail in the first place? Wasn’t it God himself who put that nasty tree in the garden? And wasn’t it God who seems to have turned his back while the Tempter came to persuade Eve to disobey? Behind it all, God had a grand plan-a scheme, the subject of the Bible: a narrative which is still in process of being acted out and fulfilled. I’ve written about this in my series “Why Do We Suffer?”Ary_Scheffer_-_The_Temptation_of_Christ_(1854)I was looking at a few facebook pages of people I used to know, and I was amazed to see even there that a common source of mirth and hilarity these days is ridicule of Donald Trump. Of course this isn’t news to any of us-it’s going on in many places. And the things they say about him are hateful, spiteful and most often completely false. They come from a media and an entertainment industry which has declared war on the world’s leader and his supporters.

So what do they want in Trump’s place? Who would they replace him with? I’m convinced they want more of the same. They want what President Obama was working hard to give them: a throwing off of the influence Christianity has had over the past two millennia, and a reversal of the confusion and separation of Babel. At Babel God acted to prevent the world of men from being unified. He did that because he knew that any such unity would be in opposition against him and against all that he created mankind for. And sure enough, the modern socialistic, one-world movement seeks to redefine marriage, spirituality, gender, love, and just about everything you can think of which relates to the original plan of God for mankind. Trump, imperfect though he is-as we all are-and his supporters, seeks to set back the clock on the perversion of God’s plan. The dissenters, the “jokers” and the haters all seek to continue the movement away from God, which was so enthusiastically facilitated and encouraged by our last president, his appointed judges and his devoted followers.800px-Pieter_Bruegel_the_Elder_-_The_Tower_of_Babel_(Vienna)_-_Google_Art_Project_-_editedThe history of man has been likened to a tale of two cities: one the celestial city of God, and the other Babel, the city of man. It’s all actually one story only: history is His-story. I’ve written before about the “Beautiful City”, a place in which man will one day, he hopes, realize his Utopian dreams; where he can do whatever he wants without consequence or criticism, and from which God is banished forever. However, proponents of modern humanism and secularism do seem to like the idea of inviting into the free world one version of god and his followers, in the hope that this god will aid in the removal of the one they see as the great ogre-the Biblical God.

Why do the nations rage, and the people plot in vain? (Psalm 2:1 ESV).

Behind it all the devil works to take down free society so that the gospel of Jesus Christ can be strangled once and for all. Many people see this as a top priority in life. They just refuse to see the fact that the gospel cannot be controlled or suffocated, any more now than it ever has been; any more than it was at the beginning when Jesus Christ was crucified and his disciples scattered and persecuted throughout the world. Persecution, as horrible as it is, only serves to further the cause of the gospel.What-is-truth02All these people will accomplish is the loss of freedom. But freedom will not only be lost for those that they hate: it will be gone from them also, because the system they work to impose in God’s place is intentionally excluding the only source of freedom.

All the machinations of those who seek to destroy what the West has stood for, with all its failures and weaknesses, may succeed temporarily, and on a superficial level- the only level they’re willing or able to see and detect. But in fact they’re expending all their energies only upon that which God has already planned and foreseen. Man without God is like a convict digging an escape tunnel, only to find that the entire prison guard are waiting for him at the other end.

God’s grand story is still unfolding-we’re in the middle of it now. The last page of the story of rebellious man is not far away, and man himself is helping to write some of the detail. Our Creator will bring to completion the Resolution of all resolutions, when those who’ve sided with God’s only son Jesus Christ will experience the happiest ending of all. And the happiest ending of all will begin a never-ending succession of wonderful, amazing stories without tension, trouble, or problems.

There can be no other outcome for the world than God’s victory over man’s rebellion, because God is the creator and sustainer of all things. Not only this, but he, and his Son, are the beginning and the end of the grand story:

Behold, I am coming soon, bringing my recompense with me, to repay each one for what he has done. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the first and the last, the beginning and the end (Revelation 22:12 The words of Jesus Christ-see verse 16)

 

 

 

THE WORLD AFTER TRUMP

Warning! Here comes another extensive rant fueled by hot, steaming passion, guaranteed to drive away my two remaining readers! Once in a while a bloke just has to let off some steam and ramble on about what really hurts his brain like the Dickens: this is such a time…

As I look around at all the rabid efforts to vilify Donald Trump and his supporters, as though they-we-have no right to partake in the political process or to have an opinion, and as I look around at the determination in Washington to remove Trump from office or at the very least to stop his progress and make him look like the biggest crook/buffoon/racist to ever occupy the White House, I can easily draw a line from where we are to the world of the book of Revelation. Truth is, without doubt, being thrown to the ground (Daniel 8:12).

There’s something of an attempted coup taking place in the US, in case you haven’t noticed. Its instigators seem to be hoping it will develop into a full-fledged revolution or civil war. Unfortunately for them Trump has far more support in the real world than they want to believe. Most moderate Democrats, I’m sure, are as uneasy about the whole situation as anyone else is and I think the radicals may well be just shooting themselves in the foot. Let’s hope so!

In any case, if the revolutionaries and their allies get their way, the US and the world will never be the same again. They know that if they can succeed in disposing of the only threat to their socialistic, immoral, West-destroying plans, there will be nothing standing in their path to “fundamental transformation”, since Trump is the only one with a spine and a following to oppose them: many Republicans just want to go with the flow and enjoy their positions.800px-Chrysaora_Colorata

Trump’s enemies had believed under President Obama that they held the direction of the country in their grip. Marx’s dreams were being realized almost without hindrance: the destruction of the Christian family, globalization, the marginalization of the Church, and the muzzling of all but politically correct speech. Notice that the underclass-those on welfare-were not decreasing in number but increasing, with fifty million people on food subsidies, and the nation doubling its debt in just eight years under Obama.

The election of Trump didn’t dampen the fervor of the revolutionaries: it spurred them on, being supported by the news media giants which are part of the movement. Obama said before the election that it was “dangerous” of Trump to suggest that a national election could be rigged, but as soon as his team lost the election they were attempting to claim it was rigged. No evidence has been found to this effect.

Marx, in his “Manifesto”, stated:

“Communists everywhere…openly declare that their ends can be attained only by the forcible overthrow of all existing social conditions”.

These people rioting in the streets and forcibly silencing speakers who don’t agree with them are not interested in democracy-they want to attain their ends by any means necessary. They want to see an end to the old order and they’re becoming increasingly impatient.

The fundamental transformation of the US was in full swing: trans-gender bathrooms in public schools, gay marriage, tax-payer funded abortion for any reason, dismantled borders, diminishing traditional families, mountains of regulations against small business and privacy growing ever larger, the silencing of dissenters including Catholic nuns, government sympathizers in control of the media and much of higher education, and globalists, including Obama, steering us towards global citizenship under an Islamic flag.

Democracy got in the way. And Trump, accused of just about everything his enemies could think up, against all the odds, the opposition and the attempts to smear him, won the electoral college outright-the constitutional requirement for election. The media and their “deep state” allies then cooked up the post-election “Russia-collusion” charge.

Several secret service agencies have all testified that there’s no evidence of such collusion. So the next investigative attack (which is no less than a witch hunt) besides all the previous accusations still being thrown around and the relentless screams of “racism”, is that Trump tried to obstruct justice in the Russia investigation. Why would he do that, if there was no collusion?

The investigators are being so thorough-poking their noses into everything they can imagine, that they’ll probably soon be examining Trump’s DNA to find out if he has any Russian ancestors. Oh, but that wouldn’t be racism or bigotry of-course. They’re practically gnashing their teeth in desperation to find something-anything-to use as an excuse for impeachment, or at least to turn his voters against him. In centuries past, many heads would have rolled by now as the result of such treason.

If the coup were to succeed, there will be nothing else and no-one else to stop the movement towards Obama’s vision of the nation-or rather the end of it-and the world. Any Republican who may be willing to fight the establishment (are there any?) would be similarly attacked and maligned by our “free” (ha ha) press and the wealthy liberal establishment. All dissenters to their political correctness will be pushed aside, mocked, locked up, silenced, and vilified. Now that’s fascism. Hitler’s Nazis silenced the Church, tightly controlled business, destroyed privacy, locked people up for saying the wrong things, denigrated the value of human life, sided with Muslims against Jews, and held complete control of all media outlets: all the things the liberals were doing and want to continue doing to a greater extent.

If the coup were to succeed, borders will soon be gone, polygamy and pedophilia with consent will be the next taboos to go, and men will marry dogs, cats, ostriches and trees. Free-speech will die, along with many millions more unwanted babies. The Christian gospel will be labeled “hate-speech”. Islam will be put on a fast track to the dominance it seeks, as was Obama’s wish. In fact, Obama may even make a come-back courtesy of his many admirers (Revelation 13:3). Israelis will be pressured heavily into handing over their ancient capital to their enemies. Iran will dominate the Middle-East.

If the coup were to succeed, the UN will be handed US sovereignty on a plate. A super-wealthy liberal elite will rule us all, defended and promoted by the “news” media. Taxes will rise causing food and fuel prices to increase greatly. We will be told what we can and cannot do in every single area of our life except morality which will be a free-for-all. Death panels will decide who gets what medical treatment and who can be born. Racism and sexism will be directed entirely against white men with government approval.

PROPHECY AND PROBABILITY, POLITICS AND APATHY

According to at least one view of Christian theology if we really have faith we shouldn’t worry what happens to our world, because we’re all going to suddenly pop off to heaven in the rapture long before anything nasty happens here on the earth: we don’t need to engage in politics because God has it all in hand anyway, and most importantly, politics is “of the world”. These people believe that it’s a sin to engage in politics-except when it comes to voting “left” of course.

Try telling the hundreds of thousands of Christians murdered or driven from their homes and their nations in Middle-Eastern countries in recent years by political ideology, while the great Obama claimed to be “containing” their murderers, that we should just let any old tyrant take control of our nations and our world. And try telling it to the millions of babies who’ve been ripped from the womb because too many people think it’s “worldly” to engage in a political process which could halt the holocaust, and who won’t support their current president who by his own words is willing and ready to do what he can to stop it.

Yes, I do believe that God is ultimately in control of all things. He was also in control of all things when he sent Moses-a man-to confront Pharaoh. He was in control when Elijah confronted Ahab, when David confronted the Philistines, when John the Baptist confronted Herod, and when Paul appealed to Caesar. Yes lets pray for revival starting with ourselves, but let’s also engage in a political system which was fought for by Godly men to give us the freedom and prosperity we enjoy.

All of the aims of man without God in our age fulfill the warnings in Revelation and Bible prophecy in general: global governance, the persecution of Christians-legal and open in most UN nations already, rampant immorality, global communications and surveillance, a hatred of Jews and particularly Jews in their ancient capital, truth being thrown to the ground, and the dominance of a system which beheads people as a punishment for dissenters.

I’m not saying that all of this will happen immediately after Trump is gone for whatever reason, but extreme liberals in the US and elsewhere are wanting to tip the world in that direction, and most moderates and those on the right are too soft or too unwilling to do or say anything to stop them, for fear of being the targets of tolerant hatred themselves.

CAN’T GO BACK

Did you ever try to return to a place you once loved, thinking it would still be as you left it? It’s not always a good idea. The Bible warns against looking back when we should be pressing on ahead for the prize. The temptation comes to all of us at some time, and on such an occasion I wrote a few lines as a warning to myself not to try it again…

JERUSALEM’S FINAL STATUS

The final status of Jerusalem is certain. No “talks” are going to decide it. There will be no “agreement”. There will be no successful “peace” plan from President Obama, Secretary Kerry or anyone else, no matter how devious or sincere, and there will be no lasting solution presented by the United Nations…

THE WESTERN WALL

Oh, there will be plenty more talks, schemes, agreements and consultations, and there’ll be copious amounts of cajoling, pressure, persuasion, threats, rhetoric and argument. perhaps for years or decades more. There’s even going to be at least one more war. But all the promises, schemes, arguments and blood-letting will amount to nothing. No-one can change the ultimate outcome: the real final status of Jerusalem is fixed and unalterable.

THE TRAP IS SPRUNG

It’s fascinating to see an unbelieving world which sneers at the Bible, work so hard to fulfill Bible prophesies. Two and a half thousand years ago Zechariah, Joel and Ezekiel wrote that God would set a trap for the rebellious nature of man. It will cement the god-haters in their chosen destiny. Even Jesus referred to last-days events as a trap:

Be careful, or your hearts will be weighed down with carousing, drunkenness and the anxieties of life, and that day will close on you suddenly like a trap. For it will come on all those who live on the face of the whole earth (Luke 21:34-35).

The trap specifically spoken of by the prophets would be the world’s own obsession with Jerusalem, and with a determination to wrest the city from its rightful tenants. Jerusalem would become an itch the world just couldn’t resist scratching. The nations now anxious to divide Jerusalem and Israel ostensibly in the name of “peace”-but really in a deep abiding hatred for the Jew-will eventually resort to force:

I will gather all nations against Jerusalem to battle; and the city shall be taken, and the houses rifled, and the women ravished. And half of the city shall go forth into captivity, and the residue of the people shall not be cut off from the city (Zechariah 14:2 KJ21).

Behold, I will make Jerusalem a cup of trembling unto all the people round about, when they shall be in the siege both against Judah and against Jerusalem (12:2).

THE WORLD’S OBSESSION WILL BE ITS DOWNFALL…

And in that day, when all the nations of the earth are gathered against her, I will make Jerusalem a burdensome stone for all people. All who try to move it will injure themselves (12:3 NIV).

Then shall the Lord go forth and fight against those nations, as when He fought in the day of battle (14:3).

On that day I will set out to destroy all the nations that attack Jerusalem (12:9).

THE REAL FINAL STATUS

The final status of Jerusalem will begin to unfold when it’s re-claimed by the God who owns it, and who calls it “my land”. It belongs to Him: not to the UN, not to the Palestinians and not even to the Israelis:

In those days and at that time, when I restore the fortunes of Judah and Jerusalem, I will gather all nations and bring them down to the valley of Jehoshaphat. There I will enter into judgment against them concerning my inheritance, my people Israel, for they scattered my people among the nations and divided up my land” (Joel 3:1-2).

Ultimately, Jerusalem will be replaced and superseded by the new, eternal city:

I saw the Holy City, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride beautifully dressed for her husband (Revelation 21:2 NIV).

LAWLESSNESS, FROM BEGINNING TO END

A few years ago , while observing the world of politics and the affairs of men, the word ”lawlessness”, in its Biblical sense, began to pop into my mind…

Recently I’ve noticed several Christians commentators using the same word to help define the spirit of our times. Anyone who’s missed the proliferation of lawlessness either isn’t looking or doesn’t want to call it what it is.

I decided to do a little Biblical word study, and it seems the word “lawlessness”, used in my ESV and NIV versions, and translated “iniquity” in the KJV and some other versions, most often refers to a rejection of God’s moral law. However, it can also refer to legal injustice (NIV “Strongest Concordance”). We’ve seen a considerable fulfillment of both of these interpretations in recent times.

How is it that the former Secretary of State can lie to the Congress of the United States under oath and jeopardize national security with impunity, and still run for the office of President? (1). Why is most of the mainstream media so dismissive of the implications of her actions, as though they say nothing about her character and her fitness for the position of leadership of the free world? What will she get away with if she becomes President? How is it that so many potential voters can freely ignore such questions?

Surely the answer must be that we are now a lawless people: a civilization which sets its wishes and proclivities above truth and consequences. And it’s no surprise really, given the lawlessness of the administration over the last several years: the blatant ignoring of law and constitution, of history, of the will of the people, and of the religion which birthed and guided the nation for over two hundred years.

At the same time people who are elected to be public servants perpetuate a crass determination to deny life to multiplied millions of humans in favor of convenience, and now the promotion of and apologetic for a foreign god (Islam’s god) at the expense of liberty, truth and free speech. The consequences for the future of America are not good. Our leaders-who hardly deserve to be called leaders-are setting the worst possible example, first of all by so arrogantly fulfilling their own will, and secondly by showing no shame or remorse once discovered.

The elites who consider themselves our masters and our betters want to control us all in every way possible, and as Plato wrote, tyranny will be the end product. Millions of people died over the centuries in order to preserve and pass on to future generations the knowledge of the law of God, and the gospel of Jesus Christ. In many ways the entirety of World War II was a battle to preserve free, Christian civilization. Don’t believe me? Refer to this speech by Sir Winston Churchill to the House of Commons on June 4th 1940:

“I expect that the Battle of Britain is about to begin. Upon this battle depends the survival of Christian civilization; upon it depends our own British life and the long continuity of our institutions and our Empire” (2).

And just in case someone may think in these times of historical revisionism that Churchill was an anomaly-a rare fundamentalist wacko, consider the opening of a prayer read to the people of the United States by President Franklin D Roosevelt, on the eve of D-Day, 1944:

And so, in this poignant hour, I ask you to join with me in prayer:

Almighty God: Our sons, pride of our nation, this day have set upon a mighty endeavor, a struggle to preserve our Republic, our religion, and our civilization, and to set free a suffering humanity (3).

Notice that Roosevelt called the US a “Republic”. Even the fact that The US was established as a republic is being denied in some circles.

The truth that the knowledge of the law of God shaped western civilization (and much of that to the East also) is now being denied or deleted by presidents, politicians, professors and some church ministers. President Obama, apologizing to the Muslim world in his first days in office, declared that the US is “not a Christian nation”. How things have changed before and since then, with help from others who intend to bring about“fundamental transformation”.

Those who wish to impose their will on us all know very well that:

Those who control the present control the past, and those who control the past control the future” (4).

The goal of present-day political-correctness is to homogenize the world, to dilute or destroy the gospel of Jesus Christ, and to convince us that all religions and philosophies are equal. This, I believe, can also be termed “lawlessness”, because it rejects the supremacy of the ways of God, and because if everything is true, nothing is true: there is no objective law of God to shape our lives by and to govern our governments by. If everything is true there is no transcendent law of life by which the founders of the United States can make such statements as these:

We hold these truths to be self-evident: that all men are created equal; that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights” (5).

So I considered “lawlessness” and “iniquity” and the rejection of the ways of God, and in the course of my study realized that lawlessness isn’t something new-it’s been going on almost since day one of human existence. First Eve and then Adam were prompted to reject God’s law, which at that point consisted only of a simple command stating, in effect, “You can eat anything you like-just don’t eat from that tree there, or you’ll die”. The serpent convinced Eve that in this simple commandment, intended to give freedom of choice and love, God was intentionally spoiling not only her fun but her “right” to freedom of choice, and she and her mate rejected God’s law.

Later in Scripture we read about the Israelites doing essentially the same thing, also fulfilling the other definition of lawlessness involving legal injustice, to the extent that:

In those days there was no king in Israel, but every man did that which was right in his own eyes” (Judges 17:6).

Perhaps the most well-known use of the word “lawlessness”, the one my mind has been returning to, and the one frequently being referenced by others, is in Paul’s second letter to the Thessalonians (2:3). It speaks of a “secret power” at work in the world, even in Paul’s time: it’s nothing new. However, it is something we can expect to increase as time goes on:

But evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse, deceiving, and being deceived” (2 Timothy 3:13”.

As Jesus put it:

… because lawlessness will be increased, the love of many will grow cold” (Matthew 24:12 ESV).

That “secret power” of lawlessness will culminate in the appearance of a man (and the Bible does say “man”, not “woman”) who is lawlessness personified, and the spirit of his time a “rebellion”:

Concerning the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and our being gathered to him…that day will not come until the rebellion occurs and the man of lawlessness is revealed…” (2 Thess. 2:1-4).

There’s a resolution to the whole problem of lawlessness, and its ultimate expression, the “man of lawlessness, is already “doomed to destruction” (verse 4).

But it’s not just that one man who will be doomed to destruction. The one who deceived Eve and Adam, and many others since, will be “thrown into the lake of burning sulfur” (Revelation 20:10). Those who have willingly paid attention to him and rejected the ways of God will go the same way:

And I saw the dead, great and small, standing before the throne, and books were opened…The dead were judged according to what they had done…” (Revelation 20:11-15).

The only question remaining is, whose side are you on? Are you on the side of lawlessness and rebellion, or are you on God’s side?
